Anyone had experience with Zorin OS 8.1? What about choosing between newest version 8.1 and LTS version 6?

Yeah, looks interesting; a Windows lookalike for someone wanting to move away from Windows XP but not wanting to upgrade their hardware. Good luck to them.

On a different note, the French distro Pear Linux is no more; the site's been taken down and it's not even available for download any more. Apparently it's been bought by an unknown company;

http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/news/pear-os-downloads-removed

Must admit I'm not happy about this, but since I never used it (it was on my llst of "must try some day" distros but I never actually got around to it), I think others have more right to complain than I do.

Doing a Ubuntu 14.04 Net Install with XFCE-Desktop as I type this out.

Install going on a Acer Aspire AST-180 that has 3 gig of ram.

I deleted Vista on it. I slapped in a 2TB drive so lot's of room for lot's of stuff.
The minimal install is on a 200 gig extended partition. This is a dual drive 250/2TB Desktop computer on hard wire eth0.

Testing AntiX 14 also in the meantime on other gear.

Edit>Done

There where a links to YouTube reviews already 2011
so somebody did find it interesting.enough to link to it.

I come to think of this Q4OS running
on a VBox in XP running rather ft subjectivally.

Would that allow those of us that gave Win 8.1
to get Linux going in that Sandbox set up then
or do they protect he UEFI already in the CPU
making it impossible to run Linux even in a VBox

AFAIK the Win 8.1 do have VBox already installed and
link to to the App on the Desktop or Pinboard screen.

@ Nooby: you should be able to run almost anything you want in a virtual box no matter what the host is. That is, if your puter has enough horsepower. I tend to prefer Vmware player because I use it at work and am more comfortable in that environment. Also, I can call up an operating system easily in Vmplayer if I am booted in windows (for work) or Linux at home. I might have been doing something wrong, but this was not always my experience with Virtualbox. I can reccomend Vmwareplayer as a good product, but like me, you'll want to use the one you find easiest. Also, check your BIOS to see if the virtual machine machine option is turned on as this will improve performance.

I trust it is just me that did happen to have access to
Virtual Box though our forum links on Puppy
but tendhat I only did have VM on the Ms
Win XP machines bought at re-tailers contracted
by Ms to only give access to their software.
Just a guess from me. Sadly the Cancer treatment
makes me unusually lazy and fail to get motivated

noobies right win8 machines have the microcode for running VM switched off in UEFI boot code... even prior to calling the BIOS compatibility layer. Thanks to microsoft safe boot you can't run a VM on a machine delivered with win8 unless you have a server type box.
There are some work arounds with DIY flashed boot mods but you run dangers of bricking the bootloader.

On my rudimentary grasp then Ms
have tried their best to cover all attempts
to get something to easily boot to get linux going.

Haha or else some150 USD to not much usage.

My ChromeBook, Acer 11.6" Chromebook 4GB 16GB | C710-2457
came in Today. Still learning this ChromeOS way of doing things like 2 finger tap copy/select all/paste . Screenshot using hot keys. Terminal via Cntrl+t.

It's a wonderment OS. Boots in seconds. Chromium opens instant. Only dual core celeron. I am not trying to sell one or bump the seller but if interested
because I got it on the cheap.

Ebay link

Inserted a 32 gig SD card to boost the 16 gig SSD internal drive.

Like I said. Still learning this operating system that was stupid simple to set up on initial power up if you have a gmail account.
Wifi was stupid simple also.

Now to make a reinstall image on a 2 gig usb drive so when I break this trying to install something else. I'll have my backup. Cool
