Dear puppians,

Vifm is an ncurses-based file manager http://vifm.sourceforge.net/index.html. The pet was requested today by forum member Rattlehead. It is the latest version (0.61). The pet creates a menu entry in File/system/File Managers, although I can't get the vifm.desktop file to launch from the menu. It does launch in a default terminal if the desktop file is clicked. I compiled it in Lucid. Any advice?

With kind regards,
vovchik

Did you try this in the vifm.desktop file?

Exec=urxvt -e vifm

Dear guys,

I tried rxvt -e vifm but gut an unwanted console session. Any way to avoid that type of launch?

With kind regards,
vovchik

thought that's what you were trying to do, what exactly are you trying to have happen when you click on the pet, I downloaded your pet and added rxvt -e to the exec line and deleted the tryexec line and it launched just fine inside a urxvt terminal just like I assume it should or are you trying to do something else?

vovchik - a bit more specific... what would be a "wanted console session"?

If you have a declared TERM variable with some other terminal emulator set as default, then it should start with:

Exec=$TERM -e vifm

Most terminal emulators have an -e option for execution.
And delete the TryExec line...

Another quick thought which prob wont work, try changing terminal=true to terminal=false

Maxerro its ncurse based meaning it doesn't need a terminal to run in even though its a cli app

How about from a run/cmd-box like gexec, fbrun, etc? Yah if it's standalone it should.

Thanks for (yet another) fm - they handy :) and like text editors there's one for every niche..
