Wow. Just wow. I haven't had a chance to download or play with this yet (real life and all that), but i am rather stunned just by the software listed and the screenshot. If you were able to put this together in 10 minutes of your spare time, well, fine, okay, you are the shiz. However, if it took the many agonizing hours i imagine it would to get everything there playing nice and set up correctly, then by all means let me say thank you for the time and effort. It sounds **AMAZING**, and i'm really looking forward to taking SlickPup for a spin!

Feedback to come!

PS- If your nose itches when someone is digging around in your puplets for good ideas and implementation details, yer gonna be scratchin'.

Subject description: failed on installation of Quickpet driver

I regularly use Puppy 5.25 on my Dell with an Intel graphics card. I installed Slickpup (frugal) with pfix=ram to prevent use of the 525 save file. It worked well until I installed the Xorg High-GLX driver from Quickpet. When I restarted the x-server as instructed the video failed. As many times as I ran xorgwizard and attempted different settings, drivers, etc., I couldn't get the display back.

Frugal install on an old Compaq PIII laptop. Everything works great so far. The transparent terminal window surprised me...
Great choice of apps!

Thanks for all of the feedback and encouragement folks.
There are a few minor bugs I've discovered in the standard edition which will be addressed in the upcoming Firefox edition.

The original Solidpup took a long time, but since I've got most of the software gathered, and have a better system for remastering, it now takes me about 1-2 weeks to make a similiar puplet from scratch.

You do not need the pfix=ram option on a frugal install.
I will look into the video driver issue. Perhaps the one from quickpet is incompatible; I suggest deleting your save file to switch back to pristine settings. Try the one from the repos (puppy package manager).

Please tell me more about the Fiirefox edition. I've been using Chrome for quite a while, but I'm game to give the new Firefox Slickpup a shot.

The Firefox Edition should be ready for download tommorrow and will contain firefox 4.0.1 along with some other apps.
I'm not sure if it is faster than Chrome, but it's pretty fast on this old P4 with 512 MB Ram. It is definately faster than firefox 3.
I prefer it over Chrome because it's about half the size of Chrome and there's a lot of plugins availiable for firefox.

Hi Tman,

I use Firefox 3.6.17 and it is by far my slowest loading program (except for avast! which takes yonks).

I have similar RAM to you (about 566 MB actually available) and whilst Firefox takes about 4 seconds to load from scratch it loads instantaneously (as does any browser or any other program) if I leave it minimised on my task bar.

My regards

This is to ensure that Slickpup doesn't load and overwrite any "lupusave" files in your computer.

That is a great idea.

Yes, in my experiments also FF4 is definitely faster than FF3, and FF5 is faster even yet, significantly faster. Browsers are changing so fast that by the time one is released in a Puppy, it has been surpassed.

Firefox 5.0b7

Seamonkey 2.1 is *much* faster than Seamonkey 2.0.x, as fast as Firefox 4.0.1

Thanks Playdayz,
I will try the new browsers later on tonight.

Updated versions of Firefox 4.0.1 and 5.0b are now availiable in SFS Format
Both have been tested and work with Solidpup and Lucid Puppy_525.

Edit: I updated Firefox-5.0b7 to work with Wary 5.1.1. ( The original upload was missing libdbus and libdbus-glib )

Aurora and the new Seamonkey are very snappy indeed, although the size of Seamonkey has grown substantially since version 2.0.11
