There had been times when people had been too stupid to find the menu.lst and now the puppyinstaller should open the menu.lst by default. That feature was added i think later than Lupu-5.1.1 , so Macpup-528 should have that .
That would be me all right but MacPup isn't finding it either.

Sorry to say that, but somehow you seem to simply have no menu.lst anywhere on the installed drives . I would suggest to post this in the Users Section of the forum, maybe forum member rsnsn51 or whatever his name may recognize you . There are stickies also in the Beginner Section for installation .

I suggest to post there because it involves to post a lot of diagnostic output about your drive(s) setup .

Cheers

Ok, but that shouldn't matter. it should be on the CD at the very least.

I just booted up Racy5.2.2 without a hitch from the CD.

[edit]
It is not too long ago since runtt21 responded to a similar happening (3 month ago):http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 784#616784
Very rarely the stage 2 grub boot loader we use wont like someone's hardware and it will give a promp like what you are saying
Guessing the burn of multiple .iso to a multi boot dvd of some magazines might not work in some circumstanes
[/edit]

Thats odd !

The live cd uses normally a cpio archive, which has here a name called "bottom"

if i cat ../cpio -d -i it, i get a menu.lst called gfxboot.cfg which should run normally the bootsplash screen :

Boot failure

HA!

Found the problem.

Menu.lst is right where it should be but there's nothing in it.

Now what?

Code: Select all

default 0

timeout 20

gfxmenu (cd)/boot/grub/bottom

color cyan/blue white/blue

title Macpup Foxy 3

kernel (cd)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pmedia=idecd

initrd (cd)/initrd.gz

title Macpup Foxy 3 - RAM

kernel (cd)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pfix=ram pmedia=idecd

initrd (cd)/initrd.gz
The (cd)/boot/grub/menu.lst of Foxy 3 ^ .

Haven't seen such (cd) entry before ..

That is the correct menu.lst on the live cd. Just the titles are changed i.e macpup 528 in place of macpup foxy 3.

Rodger did you do a md5sum on your downloads? Either your downloads are bad or your burning software left out the menu.lst info.

El Torito
The format developed by Phoenix Technologies and IBM that has become the standard for creating bootable CD-ROMs on the Intel platform. El Torito provides only the format. In order to make a CD-ROM bootable, the correct boot images must be placed on the disc, and the target computer must be El Torito compliant (all current systems are). El Torito is Spanish for "the little bull." See bootable CD-ROM.
Now informing me of stage2_eltorito lead me to this ^ .

Boot failure

My fault.

The iso was bad. Not by much so it looked ok.

But I downloaded again and that one worked.

Sakasa Has made a bunch of new Macpup wallpapers. He also made the wallpaper for the MP-Faces theme the default for mp528.

The next Macpup is still a way off but here is a shot of the beginning of it.

Precise 5.2.60 beta with EFL 1.2.2 and e17 71440....

oooooooooooooooo....I love the wallpaper!

But the ibar theme doesn't match very well.

Is the next one based on precise puppy? Or are you going to stick with lucid.

I'm really wondering what will happen to all the lucid puppies, once the
10.04 LTS sees the end of it's life cycle.

I intend to build the next macpup on precise. It's time to move forward. But then again Playdaze could put out a new lucid with a 3.2.x or newer kernel. Who knows.....

No, no please build it on top of precise.
There are so many new programs that are being developed and leaving gtk2 behind.

Gimp2,8, Audacious...etc;

The only thing I want to know is, how will precise based puppies run on old computers?
