Have you tried pUPnGO 2012 a 34mb iso based on 412 and according to the forum post it boots into 20mb of ram. Worth a try.

Puppyt and rokytnji

http://412collection.co.uk is back up and running and as an experiment I will mirror 412 Collection on Dropbox https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/332 ... index.html only time will tell if this approach works but it will give two options if anyone has trouble accessing one of them. You should note that there may be slight differences between the mirrors because I am unable to use server side scripting on the Dropbox mirror but nothing drastic. Just be aware that the mirror is not totally synced with the main site yet but will be within the next day or so.

I have used one of the URL shortening services to shorten 412 Collection mirrored on Dropbox so you can use this http://bit.do/412web to access the Dropbox mirror only

Apologies for not noticing your email but I will reply in the next day or so. Just been a bit busy of late with various things.

tuxtoo, I've used pUPnGO2012+Extras enough to know that it's not what I'm looking for ;) it's a little /too/ stripped-down... I realize you have to sacrifice *some* functionality for this sort of hardware, but that takes out a bit too much IMO, and it's really not user-friendly or nice to look at. Hate to say it, but looks matter, too...

I posted about this place way back.

But. It is up to you to Sherlock Holmes how to finagle a ezgo that may be in their warehouse in the Bay Area. Have you got any Puppy Buddies like Jpeps who can do the footwork and shipping for you?

Edit; My bad. Posted in the wrong thread but I'll leave it here just for info.
This post was for the ezgo link in starhawks signature.

@ tuxtoo

Yeah, the links work primo now here in Texas.

LOL. Thanks, roky, but I'm actually on the wrong coast for that... I'm in NC.

I really need to take that out of my sig, I've long since given up on getting an EZGO. Just how it goes...

A couple more observations;

1 / The last version of Flock - a browser based on Firefox but with extra features to make blogging and other media activity easier (and IMO a nicer looking interface too) - works well on 4.2 series Pups and should work on 4.12 as well. It's not easy to find online since it's no longer being updated but I'm happy to upload my own copy (from which I'm posting right now) if anybody wants it.

2 / Foxit (the PDF reader) keeps crashing on my computer, so I use Adobe Reader 9 or Epdfview instead.

Thanks for the clarification Mike (and for getting back to me so quickly - I think 4 minutes must be a record for a reply to one of my posts on here!). Yeah, that makes sense.

My old machine can't handle 24 bpp except perhaps at resolutions like 640X480 which I wouldn't use, but others might be able to.

I have a question; is it worth adding an E-mail program to 412 Collection and, if so, which one? I've just installed the Thunderbird 8 pet to Deeper Thought (420) and it seems to work OK (it updates to 12.0.1).

Thanks for the offer, but I honestly don't remember where I got it from - it was a while ago now.

Thanks! That's the one I've got. I was wondering though if there was a pet for Thunderbird 12 (the one 8 upgrades itself to) as it would save time if it was installed instead.

Thunderbird-12.0.pet

#89 Post by tuxtoo »

I have downloaded Thunderbird 12.0 from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... 686/en-GB/

Packaged it and it can be downloaded from http://412collection.co.uk/internet.php#tb

Please note it requires the dependency 'dbus-1.2.4.2-1_dbus-glib-0.82-w5.pet' which is also available on the above link.

Thanks! I don't think anyone needs any more features in an E-mail program than what Thunderbird 12 offers.

For a lighter program, Sylpheed is also very good (and Sylpheed Claws too), but I find them hard to set up with my e-mail provider (Fastmail), whereas Thunderbird configures itself automatically once I've typed in my e-mail address.

Emails have not changed for years...on eof the few things on the web that has not mutated into sludge and most spam prevention involves not handing out your email on the web quite so freely.

I still use thunderbird 2 and that was only updated out of interest. The numbers game played with chrome/firefox meant thunderbird had to follow suit so we are not necessarily looking at 10 major changes in a program's design that the version suggests.

In view of Mike's post above, it sent me looking for Thunderbird-2 and I found this post http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31891 but the links no longer work for Thunderbird v2 and 3 so as well as making Thunderbird 12 available I have also included Thunderbird-2.0.0.24.pet. Both versions can be downloaded from - http://412collection.co.uk/internet.html#tb

Howdy Tuxxtoo,

I have been installing

http://arpinux.deviantart.com/art/cli-radio-296656962

On my non Puppy Linux installs. It requires mplayer being installed to work.
I have not yet tried on my Macpup, Carolina, or Slack0 installs yet.

I thought you might like it in your media section.
I usually use xmms, moc,or cmus and downloaded .pls files for streaming radio
outside of using PupRadio. Just lighter on resources is all.

I thought you might like to know though is all. I love your site and I posted about it
where I mod at which is a Windows/Mac specific kinda forum. I am the only Linux red
headed stepchild there. :)

I cater to a tough audience there.

Sorry for the delayed reply just been a bit busy of late.

rokytnji

I had a go at cli-radio but was unable to get it working although I was amazed that you actually go this on devientart of all places, that would be the last place I would look for software. It is after all an arty type of site.

I did track down wmms and gave it a go but had limited success which in fairness may be due to my hardware (no sound from PC but using a cheapo USB sound card for sound) the equalizer doesn't work and couldn't get radio to stream. Although others may get better mileage than me but I will add it to 412 Collection when I get some time.

Many thanks for the plug on smartestcomputing.us.com it is much appreciated.

mikeb

I gave Deadbeef a spin and it works a treat so I will be including this as well to 412 Collection - thanks. Again when I get some time.

Your mention of Thunderbird 2 was indeed fortunate. I am a user of Yahoo Mail and Firefox 17 ESR and out of nowhere I was unable to open emails or access the settings on Yahoo Mail. After much head scratching I discovered the problem was FF17, I tried FF24ESR and all was well with Yahoo Mail.

I have always been happy to use webmail but thought I would give Thenerbird 2 a try as you have been using it happily for some time and was delighted with it and now prefer it to the web interface on a browser.

There was some minor irritations; couldn't get the dictionaries to install but after a little searching I found that the way dictionaries were installed were changed by Mozilla but the fix was easy enough. Go to the Thunderbird directory (usr/share/thunderbird/) create a directory called 'dictionaries' and put the files extracted ( can be done with xarchiver) from the dictionary file (.xpi extension) there and the spelling now works.

I would have liked a tray icon that popped up when new mail arrived and I found this too which are Thunderbird addons

FireTray - Which places an icon in the tray, closing Thunderbird minimises it to the tray making it TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident). Cliking the icon restores Thunderbird. Get it here-

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... sion-0.2.8

Right click on the download and 'Save link as'

Thunderbird Biff - Give a popup from the tray when a new email arrives. Get it here -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... bird-biff/

Again, right click on the download and 'Save link as' All in all a perfect solution for you emails.

I will also include these two Thunderbird 2 addons on 412 Collection.
