Here is a technology that I stumble onto. It can breathe new life into 32/64bit processing as its, assuming RAM based implementation, could have a great service accent on running OSes.
The Open-Souce Project is called SheepDog. It is aimed specifically at Input/Output Management of data devices.

But this is only for clustering. Clustering can be done without it, and so I don't see how it would breathe new life into anything.
