Even I don't care what i happen think about all this, but I got PMed to update my opinion here, so...

I'm always excited to see people make money from their linux efforts. Sounds like legitimate effort was made, he can *ask* to be paid. Now if someone wants to come along, collect a similar software compilation and make it available for "free as in beer", that's their right too, to the extent that that software involved is opensource/free as in freedom/libre. People that object in principle to people making money on free software aren't usually the ones making free software, in my experience. There are exceptions, of course. There always are. The whole testimonial issue... meh, if you don't like your internet handle being used in regard to this project, he should remove it, me thinks. But again, that's just my opinion, and it's not a particularly valuable one, i'm the first to admit.

as sc0ttman said, "lets hope he gets sources up and does OK."

Bremer I don't want to click on a url without knowing what it is about first.

Studio? What kind of studio. Is it Ubuntu Studio which is a kind of Music Studio or is this something else?

Errrm.... Is this guy simply charging $50 for a USB stick with "Puppy Studio" on it? Is that even allowed? If yes, then fine, just wondered.

Is it the same guy who created Puppy Studio? Seems like it might be, from the FAQ.... And I notice he has removed all traces of it being a Puppy as well - "quickpet" is now "quick package", and so on...

Ooops I am embarrassingly slow. Now I get it.

So it is puppy Studio but presented as the Studio 4.

As long as he don't say it is puppy then most likely he is within the GPL?
But I know too little.

Many of us did like Puppy Studio. But some of the files included seemed to be time limited try this and then it stop working after a certain amount of time or usage.

What it did have was some RTL things that none else have managed to repeat so I can understand that the owner of that code wants to get due credit for that work.

If Bremer did the coding of the RTL that should be praised indeed.

AFAIK he is alone being able to do that so kudos for that. My hardware was not on that level though needing several cores in the CPU if I get it.

But may had work on my Desktop with a AMD CPU?

The fact that it is running with an rt-kernel and delivers extremely low latencies, is very small, can be booted from usb and runs in ram HAS to attract some serious musicmakers out there!! I recommend it for beginners as well, because it's so simple and JUST WORKS." - maans

Very Happy Hello,
I wonder if the username is still "puppypc" LOL...
Have to admit, I have 3.3 installed frugal, and it works VERY well....
But I`m pretty sure "Studio4" violates BK`s restrictions about things built upon Puppy.. Removing the Puppy traces, but using Barry`s underlying system...
"Only $49.99"
Damn...why didnt I think of that..??? Wink

I keep seeing we're and we in the faq and disclaimer making me think that a company might have taken ps 3.3 and modified it a little bit and is trying to make money off of a certain persons work, however I thought I also remembered when he left that he was working on a ps 4 on sf.

Don't know if it's still here, but I believe that this is the last version:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=501622#501622

And 2 other versions (possibly alpha or betas):

Ah yes thank you RetroTechGuy for putting those links up, apparently it wasnt studio 4 I was thinking of that he was working on but 3.4, either way still sounds like someone is ripping off his work and trying to sell it as their own.

From FAQ:

Quote:
Q. I hear there's an older version of this on the Internet that's almost as good, except it's older and not quite as good.
A. Beware of imitators. Imitators and counterfeits could contain faulty code, rootkits, even trojans, that could damage your computer. Studio 4 suggests you only trust official products from our website.

Actually, without comment from l0wt3ch &or Bremer, we don't know if Studio4 is the result of collaboration, or indeed if Bremer is really....?
