Hi sszindian, the Cups printing problem may have been addressed in a dpup4.85 thread, where it was suggested that libpoppler3 from the Lenny repo would do the trick, and it certainly did! Suddenly you can print from Abiword again! You can download it here.
It provides libpoppler.so3 in addition to libpoppler-glib.so.4 and libpoppler.so.5 which already are installed i dpup4.85. They (4 and 5, not 3) are also available in Squeeze, but I cannot check right now whether they are installed in sqzd_4.99.2 or not. - Nope.. that didn't do it!

2. Run the commands "sane-find-scanner" and "scanimage -L".

@sszindian: Your printing problem is due to missing Ghostscript components, not the libpoppler issue in dpup485.
I have no other ideas why your Deskjet 1050 won't scan. You could try lluamco's full HPLIP package from here.

Installed just these to start with:
(a) hpliplite-3.11.3.pet
(b) libnetsnmp-15.pet
'Success!!!' Don't know which one did it but it doesn't matter as long as it worked.
Scanner now works great with both peasyscan and xsane programs!

That's good news. It's strange that 3.11.1 works for you in the other Puppies, but you need 3.11.3 for Squeezed. Did you ever try the hplip_scan-3.11.3.pet that I mentioned before?

Gosh, through the last few programs you helped me with, 'I honestly don't remember' I've installed and deleted so many files lately... but... I don't believe I ever used it as the 3.1 must have done the trick before???
Anyway... 'Again Thanks' for all your help!

Mplayer? |
|
ttuuxxx:
Any progress on the mplayer for 4.99.2?
I've been giving 4.99.2 a good test, everything is very stable so far, works very nice in all areas (except mplayer of course )
The 2.26.38.4 kernel is doing a great job with this puppy! Increased the speed 'a lot' and no down-sides to it so far. I do believe this puppy has lots of potential!
Iron 10 browser works really well in it which surprised me as this is a bummer with most puppy's so I expect chromium will do OK with it also.
Tried your VLC player for the fun of it, mp4 gives nice audio, no video, and flv's don't play at all...

mplayer |

It appears no one has the time to fool with the mplayer for 4.99.2 so I started fooling around myself and after tons of combinations... YES... you can have a nice mplayer!
Here's what you need:
(1)Download & install: UMplayer_0.95-1 (Thanks to stu90 you can get it here: http://smokey01.com/stu90/lucid.puppy.pets/umplayer_0.95-1.pet (10 MB)
(2)Download & install: ffmpeg-0.8-w-2011074 (other ffmpeg' may also work?)
(3)Download & install: mplayer-1.0rc4-Lucid51x
(4)Download & install: libFlac8_1.2.1 Get it at Debian Packages.com (they have everything you need for 4.99.2 there if you search for it)
That combination got my UMPlayer going and working. I don't know if this was the right way to do it but... 'It Works!' I also changed the desktop 'play' icon setting to go to UMplayer instead of defaultmediaplayer.

Updated Graphics Don't Save |
|
In mtpaint I updated a graphic, saved it (seemed to save OK) however, when I went to look at the graphic... NO UPDATE. It's not in mtpaint, as I tried another online paint program, same results? No doubt, a problem in the graphic save area!

Is anybody going to work on this Squeeze... It's a great puppy but... without some support it might as well be deleted from this forum, you certainly wouldn't want someone just getting into Linux to try this version and see the poor support it has, they'd be back to Windows in a heart beat!

New Kernel 39 |
|
On the up-side....
Installed BK's new 2.6.39.3 kernel and 499 turned into a really mean-clean-fightin'-machine... fast, fast, fast!!!
Previously I had a 2.6.38.4 kernel installed and it made 499 fast, fast, but nothing like the 2.6.39.3!
Also, graphics have improved (not that they were bad before) but are much better now.
499 remains 'A Solid Stable' program, if we could just get some of the dev's to take an interest in it, I believe it could be a puppy that would give all others a run for their money!
Did I mention the speed? fast, fast, fast.... yea I guess I did.

It appears the 2.6.39.3 kernel has taken care of some previous problems???
Burned an .iso with Burniso2CD... task completed without a glitch!
Verified burn... 'As Good.' (previously it always gave a bad burn indication.)
Nice work BK... keep on it

First problem: After selecting probe I only got to the X-prompt.
I then typed xorgwizard and did take choose and then the radeon driver.
I got the desktop then.
Second problem: The X-keyboard stayed us altho I configured latin1-be.
But in the X-prompt the keyboard is latin1-be. Don't see how I can get the correct keyboard.
I then rebooted and was prompted for a save file. When entering the save file name I realized the keyboard was latin1-be. Well.
So not very usable for me. | Well, no apparent interest to solve the keyboard issue. It still is in us. There even is no kbd section in xorg.conf, so can't rectify manually.
A second problem is discovered.
There doesn't seem to be a ntfs-3g functionality, so ntfs partitions are mounted read-only.
Is this project abandoned?

499 |

Hi Beem!
I for one certainly hope this isn't a dead project, it is really a good solid version however, over in:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70333
lguleder: has a version of this 499 started and
pemasu: has another version of 499 going based on iguleder's build.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70399
stu90: is currently working on a barebones 499 version, I don't see any post for that yet.
I don't know if any more 499's are in the making but it should be interesting to see what eventually will turn out with each one?
Personally, I'm sticking with what I have been able to put together from here until I see what developes with the other builds, it works very well for my needs thus far the others may go well beyond this basic-build, as this is a very good Debian-Base version BK put together.

Things are going rapidly.
pemasu announced a dpup squeeze 5.0.0 based on Iguleder's work.
So there is now:
Igleder's 4.99.1 (with enlighted)
Barry's 4.99.2
pemasu's 5.0.0
Haven't investigated the differences between them.
But the 5.0.0 shows the same keyboard issue as the 4.99.2
Pretty confusing.
