Cloud Puppy!
Cloud Puppy!
Now here is a nice idea.
A backend for Gtk3 that can run your apps in a browser.
Check it out http://blogs.gnome.org/alexl/2010/11/23/gtk3-vs-html5/
Puppy is ideally suited for that! It can be in the cloud and you access it through your browser.
Modem connections are out, but hey you could have it on your phone

I would bring your attention to one of the comments
http://www.physorg.com/news/2010-11-clo ... -ugly.html
I believe the HTML 5 components are very useful and being adopted very fast.
Cloud computing means selling software across formats is viable and the malware risks are also cross platform.
There is a way around this software franchise that is being hoisted on us by Gaaggle, MicroSift and others and that is to run the server
and the software on your own machine.
You also keep data on YOUR home server - not some central info bank.
You then have encrypted access to your server from other devices.
This model of user control is not wanted by vested interests such as govt.com and bigcorp.com.
Increasingly computing is a social service
and potential for empowerment
So this is good
but we need to handle the goods.

and in general about cloud computingVery cool!
But what about security? The gtk+ program can do whatever it likes on the server it runs on?

Trying to summarize what he said:
- The internet should become a real web, a peer-to-peer network, as it was originally meant to be.
- The hierarchical server-client model has to be overcome, replaced by a democratic network, where the client is the server.
- We can do this with small wall wart devices, that will become very cheap, as "servers"
- All personal data remain local.
Would Puppy then become a server side OS?
Where and how could something like this start?
Fascinating ideas!
EDIT: I just discovered there's a part two also (Q&A)

They have similar thoughts??? in emergency situation. The "servers" are down, the Mobile Masts and the Mobile Phone servers are down so smartphones does not work either.
so how can emergency workers communicate to set up things like field hospitals and all the logistic to get water and food distributions going.
they have their own mobile phone server station shipped in on the airplane and or through a boat or a truck. They have their own emergency power generators and so on.
But all that takes time to set up and are expensive so the latest ideas seems to be to make all smartphones into emergency distributed servers???
Suppose the first rescue emergency people are there at the scene of an earthquake or something.
No communication works so they use PBS ? walkie talkies first but if one make every smartphone able to do walkie talkie and sharing of such work then they could communicate without having separate communication gear with them. The pool of smartphone is the server but distributed out on each phone so the more the phones the less demand on each of them?
But would the ISP allow such usage of their nets?
Before we have internet we had something else. Forgot the name but "Hubs" was at home of persons that volunteered to set up hubs and announce them to be available so one make a phone call to the hub and one could get emails and look at pages?
But then the hub got locked by that user signin in.
Now when we have digital access one can have many that access same hub.
If one make each mobile phone into a hub server then each person within reach become part of the network ?
Obviously I don't get it. But when it works it sure works. Have been tested.

I think it is all in ROM as part of the usual OS of the Smartphone?

I really like his ideas, but have a hard time imagining how this can be implemented. The "big bad" central servers that serve the internet now, also guarantee the continuity of the net. Can a peer-to-peer network do the same? When, for example, I want to do some reading on Wikipedia, will it be "there", served by thousands or millions of wall warts? Surprised

That is the presentation of time wasting

It obscures us with what we have to Faceback . . .
The new commodity is data, its control, filtration and presentation.
It will take a while for the regulators of Rupert MadDog
