Hum, maybe.
Do you have a 'default.list' in /usr/share/applications ?
Mine contains these lines :

No! i did not have this file either - I have added both of them, but they do not seem to make a difference, the mime types did not change... But thanks for all your help, that's fantastic so far! :D :D

it is a joy to be able to help you.
Even if I do not bring much finally  .

Could you try to copy these 2 files in /root/.local/share/applications too ?
And just to be sure, what is the content of /root/choices/mime-types folder ?

Tried it, no change...

I am getting seriously p***ed off with Xfce - what a massive pain the arse! I have lost all patience with it! All this effort just for some crappy menus and settings apps that only need to be set once, then can be ignored..

Still having problems with these damn mime types, nothing seems to work as expected, except manually setting user-specific mime settings, which must be done through thunar, by clicking on each filetype!!!

For example, after manually editing the defaults.list files, and so on, I have all *vnd* mime types (various office files) are opening with Pupzip!!! NOT what I chose!!!

I think I am gonna upload the package without fixed mime types - the mime types are all listed in the MIME editor, but the actual programs launched for each type are a mess!!!

I'm gonna have one last go at fixing these MIME types and I will upload the Xfce package to the repo, even if the mime types are still half-buggered.

I did plan to get Xfce, MATE and LXDE in the akita repo, but if they are also such a pain in the arse to setup, I won't bother!

OK, I have manually added many mime types,
most common files are sorted,
and I also added many right click options to thunar...

I will package up and upload this Xfce-4.10 tomorrow ...
I will try to compile thunar with tabs if possible, and it'll be included if it works OK...

I'm not too bothered about Xfce 4.10, Akita already has many, many WMs in the repo, including 2 excellent xfce2 packages, one of them stripped right down... But I will get a good xfce 4.10 in the repo sooner or later!! ;)

The Wish apps require the full TCl/Tk pkg from repo, plug gnocl ... Maybe something else, cant remember - last time i installed it through PPM it worked fine... What errors are u getting in the terminal??

Thanks, your help has been really great already, thanks. :D Didn't have time to have a full test and upload, so until then..

I also compiled and installed desktop-file-utils-0.13, not sure if it changes much.. I also just packaged up and installed 'xdg-utils', so now I have `xdg-open` installed ... and then i compiled and added `xprop` as well... that might fix things a bit more as well... not sure..

I have manually changed and updated many mime types, and added many right click options, but i want to compile the latest thunar, with tabs, then re-package, reboot, re-install, test again, and if all is OK, I will upload the Xfce pet soon..

Once it's uploaded, all credit will go to Jely69 and rg66 who babysat me at each stage when I needed help!! :)

I will not re-compile it all with gudev, gvfs, etc - I will compile pup-volume-mounter and add it as a dependency (hope it works OK!) ...

On another note, for some reason, I feel like including this image that I made a while back as an additional wallpaper in the next akita, for better or worse!! You can complain once it's released!  I made it using the tiny 5mb GIMP package in the repo, and my old Wacom tablet - most of which work in Akita out of the box. But I spilled a cup of tea on my Wacom tablet and it died ages ago :( ... I uploaded the img to imgur.com using a nice ROX right click option for images, which I found on some site and added to akita (and now added to thunar) :)

Xfce 4.10 added to Akita repo..

#897 Post by sc0ttman »

Xfce 4.10 added to Akita repo.. Click 'update' in the PPM to get it..

The package is 'xfce4-4.10-i486-akita', in Desktop, 2.5mb..

***** EDIT: This package is STILL not great - you might need to install it twice to avoid some slightly messed up menus... Also the thunar right click options and the MIME settings I added STILL seem not to get loaded, but in are the package... If someone who knows better could test (and fix??) this package that would be excellent!!

I added the custom menu file in /etc/xdg/menus and /root/.config/xfce4/menus/ ... I also added mime type options in /root/.local/share/ ... I added thunar right click options in /root/.config/Thunar/uca.xml

It never made a difference if I added defaults.list, mime.info etc to /usr/share/applications, so i didnt put those files in the pkg in that place... *****

These deps will also be installed: +dbus,+dbus-glib,+libffi,+glib,+desktop-file-utils,+libwnck,+polkit,+tumbler,+xdg-utils,+xdg_mime_types-0.1-noarch-akita,+xprop,+exo,+garcon,+libpam0g,+icon_theme_xfce

That looks like loads, but its only about 2 or 3mb in total... mostly damn icons :)

Users of Akita 14 can also get it and install by doing the following in the terminal:

Code: Select all

pkg --repo akita
pkg --update-repo
pkg --get xfce4
(If you had missing exo/garcon deps after installing, re-install from Pkg or PPM...)

Xfce Customisations in the default setup:

- added pinstall which sets it up, with popup dialog about xfce (info saved to ~/xfce4-tips.txt)
- updated menu, more puppy-like categories, etc (edit: not perfect 1st time, needs install twice...?)
- like all WMs in Akita, added 'akita shutdown' menu to main menu
- added 'run as spot' to main menu
- many custom mime settings (edit: not working..?)
- many right click options in thunar (edit: not working..?)
- thunar root warning disabled
- custom 'Mist' icon theme will be added as dep,
- auto sets GTK theme to Xfce-smooth, icons to Mist theme, smaller font sizes in menus etc
- customised panels, cleaner, more compact, kept default features
- disabled 2nd panel at bottom of screen
- custom clock settings, show date and time

Image

Please test if you like Xfce or Akita (or both), as I need to be sure the PPM installing the required glib-2.30, as well as others, etc...

Hi Scott,

the dramas of xfce, been there, I looked at the right-click custom actions, the uca.xml needs to be the same in both /root/.config/Thunar/ and /etc/xdg/Thunar/ for them to be the defaults, the user added actions are amended to /root/.config/Thunar/uca.xml, the files you have are corrupt, the format is wrong, the one in saluki is wrong also but we fixed that in Carolina by finding the correct one, here's a copy of ours that's readable, I think gray used the Saluki one in RacyNOP and PreciseNOP, hope this helps you sort things

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Scott,

the dramas of xfce, been there, I looked at the right-click custom actions, the uca.xml needs to be the same in both /root/.config/Thunar/ and /etc/xdg/Thunar/ for them to be the defaults, the user added actions are amended to /root/.config/Thunar/uca.xml, the files you have are corrupt, the format is wrong,
Hi Geoffrey,

Thanks for looking into this.. I added your uca.xml to both the /etc and /root locations...
But still no change at all.. I still have no right click options... And I can't add any either...

i do not even have the 'edit > configure custom actions' menu item in thunar!
I've no idea why! what does this indicate?

And of course, even once i fix these damn right click options, i still have the mime types to fix!! Grrr...

Do the defaults.list, mimeapps.list, mimeinfo.cache files need to be the same in both /root/.local/ AND /usr/share/applications, like ucl.xml ?

This is so not worth the effort!

To learn how to make build scripts for buildpet, the best thing to do is edit an existing buildscript in /usr/share/buildpet/*... Basically you need to change PKG_NAME, PKG_VER, the URL of the source code, and maybe add some steps in build() func, to create a pinstall for the package, or move/remove files from it, before it's packaged up...

I have re-uploaded the Xfce4 package in the repo,

I have fixed Thunar so that it now has the right click options that I added (see screenshot),

..but the problem that menu settings are messed up/unorganized at first launch remains..
The fix is a double install of the xfce pkg..

The easiest way to download & install it (twice) is with these terminal commands (you can use TAB auto-complete for pkg names):

Code: Select all

pkg --repo akita
pkg --update-repo
pkg -g xfce4
pkg -f -i xfce4-4.10-i486-akita
That will install xfce and all deps, then re-install xfce..

The other problem is this: MIME settings in the package dont work as expected once xfce starts... maybe I have bad settings in the xfce package for mime types, not sure..

I wanna sort this, not fail at this.. I REALLY wanna get past this double-install-menu-fix, and hopefully fix MIME settings (not too bothered about that tho...)

- gentoo_NLS-0.11.57, in Filesystem, 200K
- libimlib-1.9-i486, in BuildingBlock, 119K

I'd like to add more gtk1 apps, but can find any (i did find PULP, and might rip some out of there...) I'm looking for a good gtk1 ROX, mtpaint, burning prog, whatever...
You will find loads of gtk1 goodies at amigos place

I think I have totally fixed the xfce4 package, so I've re-uploaded it.. Testers welcome!

Menus should be nicely organised, no double 'internet' categories, mime types should be loaded up as i saved them, and all right click options in thunar should work fine... :) finally... and it's only about 5mb inc all deps :)

How to install:

Code: Select all

pkg --update-repo
pkg -g xfce4
