Hi

sszindian is quite right. I did not want to install 36MB of java stuff and I was basically asking if there was anything similar that did not require this type of install as I did not want to sign up to another site only to find this was again required. Based on his reply I have given up on "the cloud" for the moment.

Gr8 work sszindian. Its like browserlinux, and hey, how do you delete an app from lupu.sfs? I wanted to make a remaster on my own but i do not know how to remove unwanted program. I hoped i can ask u sszindian

It's called- Slideshow-1.0.pet (scroll down the forum page, it's near the bottom)

It currently points to your 'Backgrounds' and displays those but but you can change it to point to your 'Pictures' folder (you must create one and upload your pictures to it... any size pic., works) and the current setting for the delay between slides is '5' I changed that to '10' and it works very nice.


If you run into problems getting it setup, just hollar!!!

Japan and the recent sunami thousands of computers and personal information destroyed!

Mid-West U.S.A. tornadoes, family pictures found as far as 250-miles from impact, again thousands of homes destroyed, who can tell how far their computers flew before being totally wiped out along with all their personal information! Not to mention the floods there!

Now... tell me having a backup of your important files somewhere on one of the Cloud's FREE services is not a good thing! Yes, there will always be a security risk but tell me which is better... the security risk, or the possible total destruction of all your information?

If you are looking for a nice FREE Puppy Desktop-Type Application... this site shows a plain grey puppy background with a Browser-Type header. It looks like you are on a plain puppy desktop thats open in your browser (and you really are) BUT... at the top of the new desktop are some Icons, (Menu, Favorites, Install, Games) when you move your mouse on them a menu will drop down displaying loads of menu and sub-menu items to click on. It appears that most of the links work just fine.

There is also a Custom Google Search box built in this and a drop-down WWW box that takes you to some other puppy sites.

This is a good easy way to have a Cloud Desktop for your Cloud Puppy at no cost with lots of cloud applications to keep you busy!

This is one URL you may want to install in your Cloud App Starter as a permanent Icon so it's only one-click to your new desktop:

It will auto update your cloud-apps pop-up window with some nice cloud apps to start off with.

IMPORTANT: If you already placed some of your own favorite cloud sites in the cloud-apps pop-up, mark them down or make a print-out so you can re-enter them after you do the update!

After you up-date, you may want to try the Cloud-App 'V-Browser' it allows you to run around the Internet and NOBODY knows who you are or where you come from, your own browser can't even record your sessions history... something maybe for more secure on-line-banking?

Looks promising? Looks a lot like JoliOS that I like a lot. I do believe HTML5 will lead the way to many new and exciting web apps... It is changing so fast these days, it's impossible to say what's coming down the pike or for that matter, even try to stay up to developments!

I guess we'll just have to watch and see......

Last post was Sept 2011, has Cloud Puppy been abandoned or transferred to another thread?

I am thinking of moving my domains from a traditional server host to Linode.com - which would allow me to build my own Cloud host.

I like the idea of a "mainframe in the sky" from which I may access my resources from anywhere and any properly-equipped device; e.g. laptop, netbook, tablet, or smartphone.

I do have concerns about security, censorship/failsafe access, and long-term preservation, so I would backup important documents to a home server, encrypt private files on the "cloud server", and handle confidential documents only on a secure local storage device (e.g. HDD, SD-card, USB-stick).

So, what's the status of Cloud Puppy, please?

No... Cloud Puppy isn't ababdoned, it's just that there doesn't seem to be too much interest in cloud-stuff among Puppy users for reasons that are beyond me... I still believe it's going to be the entire future of computing as we know it somewhere in the near future, it's just a fantastic way to do things and I doubt that Google and many, many others would be sinking so much capitol in Cloud if they didn't believe that also.
I even had a Cloud-3.0 about ready to go here but as you can well see, there are just no dev's or programmers willing to jump in and help... as I stated before, I'm NOT a programmer I just know some things about putting stuff 'together' that's already available but a new Cloud Puppy with all the new code updates etc., is a bit more than I can handle by myself, I was very lucky to get Cloud-01 going.
As far as the the status of Cloud Puppy, version 01 is still available for those that want it, where it's going, we'll just have to wait and see...

I am no programmer either but if you look at the setup instructions for Linode.com most of the hard work there has been done.

I'd be willing to host an area for Cloud Puppy resources.

Our son loves games so he'd sure be interested in a platform-independent cloud.

I have a wide variety of interests, including Bible, current events, Amateur Radio, alternative energy, etc.

I will be transferring multiple blogs, Web sites, and possibly setting up a FTP resource.

I use LibreOffice a lot, generally for word processing.

It would be way cool to have a Cloud Puppy to access everything - including a version for Android (phone and tablet)!

Already have looked at 'Linode' and it shouldn't be hard to setup what you want there!

Cloud stuff for the most part is a lot easier to work with than say... regular programming stuff for sure.

Let's wait until you get something going and then I'll offer my 2-cents (if you want it and we'll take it from there.

One thing I do believe will happen with most all cloud sites in the future is having all the major applications for use from the site itself thus making the user's computer nothing more than a sophisticated web-browser installed with access to the cloud site, there are some doing this already although it's taking time for the 'hard-headed' group to grasp this... Google Notebook, JoliOS (a distro way down on the distrowatch list at present but a fantastic Cloud program) among others. The JoliOS is one you should go get and try, it will give you a very good example for accomplishing your own ideas.

Right now edoc, conventonial distro's are hot but that will change once the 'hard-heads' take a serious look at Cloud and what it can do compared to stuffing a terabyte hard drive with constantly needed program upgrades on one's own computer only to to loose it all when (and that's not an IF) the HDD failes. I've been down that road and it isn't pretty!

Sure, Cloud's going to have it's problems but nothing compared to maintaining your own system.

By the way, for your son... have you by chance downloaded the '.pet' I have for 'Cloud Computing For Every Puppy' ? it has one app already in it where over 200 games are available via the Cloud and, be sure to check that URL site also there is some nifty stuff posted! I will be more than pleased for your input as I engage the Linode project.

I tend to be cautious and cynical about anything on the Internet, but following appropriate protocols, one may *manage the risk*.

As I mentioned before I intend to maintain parallel apps locally for offline use, key files on a personal server for offline access (and redundant backup), encrypt online what needs to be secure (e.g. communications and docs related to counseling people, business transactions, etc.), and create and store local-only what must be critically-secure (certain login info, certain docs, etc.)

One may take full advantage of the Cloud concept while retaining the features of local computing - it is an AND rather than an OR equation.

BTW: Perhaps Cloud-Hybrid or Hybrid-Cloud Puppy might be more-appealing, one where the user may toggle at a moment's notice between Cloud and Local. (It's been crazy here so that may be in there already, or in v2 or v3 and I didn't notice. Our three laying hens were killed by a bobcat last night, they were 2yr old pets raised from Easter chicks, and then the neighbors dog showed up to make a social call on our nearly 5yr old female puppy and needed to be walked home without his "date". Adventures of life in the country.)

I see on the CD pic you posted that this does not need to be loaded to a hard drive and is intended as a "Live CD" OS. Is it still practical to run this from HDD or usb if the user prefers? I am trialling various Puppies to let me boot my netbook from usb and check work emails via our webmail interface and it sounds like Cloud is worth a look.
Now that I have sussed out a variety of problems that were causing me headaches booting from usb I am keen to make up a bootable stick so that I can run Cloud without touching my Windows HDD installation.

Do you think that the browser is secure enough to be checking work-related emails? (Our company I.T techs tell me that Internet Explorer is now the most secure browser but I don't believe them )
