No this is bugs.
- hotmail : average users don't know what headers are. Please change useragent.
- modify a file in ntfs : geany says "error saving file, operation not supported".
- csv : feature request.
- flv videos dont show image in gmplayer, only sound.
I found the solution with gmplayer -vo x11 file.flv
But puppy uses by default gmplayer -really-quiet -vo xv file.flv
- universal installer doesnt install grub.
- mouse scroll , this is bad design.
- keyboard language, why need X restart ?
There is a solution loadkmap < /usr/share/kmap/es.map
Where are kmap files ?
Kmaps files are in gz in /lib/keymaps ?
Found solution : gunzip /lib/keymaps/es.gz | loadkmap
something like that...
to be continued...

- empty dirs : why keep on having those ?
/etc/belocs
/etc/dbus-1
/etc/gftp
/etc/pam.d
/etc/simple_network_setup
and others...

- hosts.conf should be

Code: Select all

order hosts, bind
multi off
nospoof on
See http://tldp.org/LDP/nag/node82.html
I tried multi on, but didnt work, so kept multi off.

- Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
Because of binary modules like nvidia...

- /etc/group : contains unused groups , like tape, webgroup ?

- /etc/profile should contain exported variables only like : export HISTSIZE=10
it contains exec xwin ?

- same for /root/.bashrc should only have things like

Code: Select all

alias ll='ls -l'
PS1=whatever you want....
export HISTTIMEFORMAT="%Y/%m/%d_%T : "
These are not features request, these are unix standards.

Nice one, James C. When I moved last year, some things just had to go. With a tear in my eye, boxloads of P I, Cyrix and even K6-III were bid farewell along with their boards - all in GWO; probably reduced for their auric complement by now.
Your efforts will doubtless cheer little old ladies in Novo-Sibirsk, teens in the DRC and fellow Welsh-speaking Patagonians who will, generators permitting, be able to email you directly with their thanks!

Puppy are puppy and have not promised to be unix standard AFAIK?

Reading your complaints I get the notion you should make your own Linux or even Unix standard and link to it. Would love to join your forum and tell you what would be puppy standard there :)
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

There isn't one, but just rename the 5.1.4 devx.

It is my impression we, as well as most distributions, are using NTFS-3G as the driver for the NTFS file system. I differentiate between NTFS-3G and Linux Kernel because they are two different Open Source projects.

The reason for my post is to communicate that it seems NTFS-3G supports compression. You can check out this link below

http://b.andre.pagesperso-orange.fr/compression.html

However, the approach I'd take on my own computer is decompress the files and use them that way. But such things as disk space may make this not so easy for you.

Good luck.

I'm surprised they are still having the problem.

It is and has been my thoughts that Microsoft as the owner of Hotmail deliberately messes things up for us.

To support this opinion notice as you did note that changing the User Agent 'fixes' it. The fix seems: They spoof you and you spoof them.

The vast majority of sites don't mess with you this way. And if they use the User Agent it is likely for your benefit. For example, rendering CSS properly.

I just don't see a bug on the Mozilla side of things. Even if there were, it would something for Mozilla to take up because Puppy simply uses their binaries or sometimes source.

Wary Puppy 5.1.4.1

#359 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install of 5.1.4.1

I think pmount is broken, when I run pmount from the terminal it gives
errors:

# pmount
can not set locale properly

(process:14929): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
/usr/sbin/pmount: line 386: 14929 Terminated yaf-splash -bg orange -fg black -close never -fontsize large -text "$m_02"
#
I just had it update my 5.1.4 save file if that makes any difference.

Clicking on a drive in jwm mounts the drive but running pmount from
the terminal doesn't.

edit:I deleted the save file and rebooted 5.1.4.1, then checked pmount
and it worked.
So having a 5.1.4 save file updated by 5.1.4.1 didn't fix the pmount
problem but starting 5.1.4.1 with no save file and then creating one
in the normal way did cause pmount to work.

I installed all of the pets to fix the broken "p" programs on the install on my Athlon XP box.Seems to have done the trick.

No problem here running Pmount from the terninal (one gtk error but still functions normally)or the menu.

Quick test of Wary 5.1.4

#362 Post by drblock2 »

Was able to test Wary 5.1.4 on three different machines:

1. ThinkPad R60 Intel dual core T2500 2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM. This machine has the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics chip that was a plague even under XP for which it was supposedly designed. The Lucid family recognized the chip and installed the radeon driver. The result was a freeze up of the machine within a few minutes. The Lucies do run well if one can manage to install the vesa driver in time.

Wary 5.1.4 installs the radeon driver and works satisfactorily - if a bit on the slow side - ca. 350 FPS. Connection to eth0 worked on boot up with no intervention necessary. Sound and flash video okay.

2. AMD Athlon 2 GHz home brew (9 years old) with 2 GB RAM and nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. Wary 5.1.4 in stalls nv driver, eth0 automatic on boot up. Sound and flash video fine.

Attempt to upgrade to nvidia 71.86.14 fails with black screen. Xwin refuses to start. This is strange as this driver produces excellent results with Wary 5.1.3.

3. AMD Duron 700 MHz with 448 MB RAM (11 years old), nvidia NV6 Vanta/VantaLT graphics. Perhaps thanks to ample RAM, the nv driver yields about 90 FPS. Attempt to update to nvidia 71.86.14 fails as with the AMD Athlon. Connection via WLAN with SNS with no problems.

Wary-5.1.4.1. Psync.

#363 Post by rodin.s »

I don't know why, but 'Offset to UTC' in 'Europe/Kiev' in Psync is +2300. It's strange.
I am sorry. Everything is OK with new save file. My mistake.

I reported the same problem with the GF6200 PCI-e card. Abandoned that combo!
Incidentally, your D700 is worth G-ing a little. Knock the multiplier back to x5 or maybe x5.5 / 6 and you may get it run at fsb133 with the correct SDRAM. My long experience suggests that this is a very worthwhile venture - Durons are under-rated. Of course, they start life as Athlons, but only on some of the later versions can the extra cahce be unlocked.
