Thanks ttuuxxx! I do believe we are back in business with seamonkey.. flashblock is the first thing I install :)

sc0ttman, the xorgwizard hacks are specific to the newer xorg, this is the newest xorg that any puppy has ever had, so we are on the bleeding edge. I wouldn't worry too much about that LANG=C call, BK knows what he's doing most of the time

aarf.. I haven't forgotten your wvdial issue. I have never tried to connect with my phone but will. I do have a usb 3G dongle, which I didn't test yet, but it was ok in spup-100. Will test both soon.

The patch I made to xorgwizard works. (xorgwizard_patched-0.1.pet)
1) I patched , but after that no keyboard only the mouse (xorg.conf was not changed, no device section)...
After that ran xorgwizard (fr, azerty etc...) nothing, no keyboard only black screen with prompt > xorwizard (prompt) > nothing... > xwin :nothing...
xorgwizard or xwin : always black screen with prompt

2) sound tray-icon : always maxi sound even if muted (but with spup100 retrovol was good)

re my post on page 4 of this thread concerning mtpaintsnapshot:
In trying to make a screenshot, I notice that mtPaint-snapshot does not store its shots, or rather doesn't make any. The usual places like /.root or /tmp have no pictures stored. Even pfind can't find anything.
I found the exact same problem in ICE007 and did some research there:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=360

It might be of interest for you Micko, unless you already know what causes the problem.

Thank you.

once you install the missing local and then set the local, and then restartX, then mtpaint screenshot works, Xdialog needs the local to be set, before its fully functional.

If you open /root/.xbindkeysrc as text, line 52 states "/usr/bin/lxtask" well unfortunately we only have Pprocess, So I system linked Pprocess to usr/bin and renamed it lxtask, now when you hold down CTRL+ALT+DELETE Pprocess lunches, but if you install lxtask like most, then that will overwrite the system link and lxtask will launch which is even better:)

next Puppy (5.3)

#84 Post by Lobster »

The successor to Lucid Puppy (according to Barry)
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02248
It was playdayz who choose Ubuntu packages, and the choice for the next Puppy (5.3) is also up to whoever is going to manage it.

I still think whenever you change from a Ubuntu version to a Slackware version it should be given a new version number 6.0
I vote fore Spup-6.0A2 next release

There's also a slackware package search engine located at http://packages.slackverse.org/
works good for when I want to stay with the same version numbers when compiling deps.

Still running the test frugal of 120 on the old P3 test box. Once I set the locale all the problems here disappeared except it's necessary to reset the time every reboot. The timezone remains correct the time is just incorrect.
GParted,Grub and mtPaint screenshot all started working as soon as the locale was set.

Overall, looking good for an early release.

thanks ttuuxxx, I'll use that in the next issue

James, the locale bug was an oversight  .. kinda caused by boot to desktop.

At the moment we have 2 major bugs, keyboard for French (azerty, Tasgarth) is not working, setxkbmap is giving the error, same with sk-qwertz (Slovakia) so I'm guessing that's dejan's? (I know you live at Montenegro  ). Interestingly, wangbe (azerty?) works. Anyone an expert in keyboards?

The other is timezone which I'm sure is something stupid I did.. but what?

Xorgwizard should be fixed, I'm working on a way to autogenerate the xorg.conf. That will take care of any touchpad woes for lappy users.

The other thing is nouveau.. hey ttuuxx, you got nvidia haven't you? Seems nouveau is still buggy on older nvidias, eg James, Stripe.. but mine is fine and wuwei said his is fine. Hmm but it's difficult then to install the proprietary driver. Bit of a dilemma there.

Also there is PPPOE to fix and pupdial to test.

Ok that's just a brief summary, oh apart form the menu item ones ttuuxxx found, Xchat, countrywizrd (missing symlink) and there is one or 2 in the devx need fixing too, Um, I don't think we can afford qt so the cmake gui has to go! Oh yeah, thanks to withoutpity for the cmake fix and others.

Hi mick

If you provide the kernel headers I'll compile nv,
Also It would be nice to have the updated devx,I compile live and reset my pc, So I'll have download the missing pats again :)
As for Qt, I can compile and add the dev's to an updated devx and provide a link, Plus I could split it up into 2 main parts, The webkit part is usually really big and can be part of a additional package.

Well, setting the country local is the first default window that opens on a fresh install. I tried de and de-Euro. Neither has any bearing on mtpaintsnapshot. A wrong gtk theme has, but even when I use the default theme gradient-grey I can only get to the window where one chooses the delay. Clicking on Okay has no result. No mtpaint window opens, no shot is taken, no file saved.

Further:

I did a manual frugal install of spup120 on another PC at another location. This one sits behind a router, no pppoe to configer. Internet connection is established fine, I am writing from it now.
Desktop came up perfect on an old nVidia card. No shift, no distortion, just perfect! The graphics are so old (2001 or so), that Hardinfo can't even give a description.

All in all....spup120 is on the right track, fun to use!

Downloaded spup-120.iso.
Checksum matched.
Did a poor=mans frugal install, and booted with pfix=ram.
Desktop was trashed and could not make out anything.
alt-ctrl-bksp out and ran xorgwizard.
With my Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE video card, neither nvidia driver did anything but take me back to the prompt after selecting the driver and typing xwin.
So I figure "What the heck" and try the vesa driver.
And I am told it cannot be found!

So now you know of my rough start.

I think Flash has the same model of PC as I have right down to the video card.
I guess I should have read through the thread before I posted.
I will give the xorgwizard patch a try.

So until I can get to a desktop, I will not be of much help.

Back so soon am posting in edited post.
I used "Edit-SFS" to uncompress, edit, and recompress the spup.sfs file to get the updated xorgwizard installed.
But even though it works now, I still am unable to get a good display with nveau (spelling) driver and the nv one does not work.
Also, when I select "vesa" the test box that shows on the screen looks good. But the PC locks up after.
That is currently about as detailed as I can get.
But I also wanted to pass along the thought of using "Edit-SFS" for applying quick fixes to the SFS file without having to do a full rebuild.

I Updated my little script which is the Send-to-Backgrounds script, now it not only sends the image to the background that it will also launch Pwallpaper setter, So you can select it and if you add another image it will kill Pwallpaper and restart it, basically refreshing it.

for people who want to mess around and make wallpapers here's an extra large slackware logo I found and also I took the logo and used its colour to fill and make a really small basic slackware background, its 20kb smaller than the smallest fullsize background included in spup.
