Ok, so nouveau is still an issue It's the same series as fluppy kernel James and I know you had issues with nouveau in that. I guess we finally dump nouveau?
Kernel source perms are fixed! Thanks Billtoo.
scOttman.. shino's otf loader does work pfix=ram but the sfs downloader in slickpet doesn't support that feature, and I won't likely introduce it. Thanks for the pplog issue report. Strange, as that is most often caused by copying woof in rox which I am aware of and don't do

For what it's worth, I've had zero luck with nouveau on this box.....and that includes my Mepis (just moved up to Mepis 11) and Ubuntu installs.
The "nv" driver always works well enough until a proper Nvidia driver is available.
Otherwise, everything appears good.

I'll try it on the 8400GS box a little later and report back too.

I just booted into pemasu's latest Snow Puppy 018 (2.6.35.7) and as I suspected using "nv". Too darn many installs, I forget sometimes...

spup-121.02 pre-alpha3 based on 13.37 Subject description: proprietary nvidia driver |
|
I downloaded and installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-270.41.19.run
proprietary driver.
This time Report-Video GLX gives more info, there is an error where it
says vesa though.
Nexuiz,Sauerbraten, and Openarena all work perfectly so definately
have hardware acceleration.
I think this driver just came out recently.
This is Slack Pup gaming edition

When I open the terminal the 1st two lines show a syntax error, I
think this started after I installed kdegames but I'm not sure about
that.

Delete those *.csh files and all will be ok.. it is part of qt, needed by kde..
The nvidia pets are chopped down for size. What I should do is package up the remainder and offer as 'nvidia supplement' or something

Yup, that fixed it, thanks.
Also, if I run glxgears with the nvidia pet installed they run fast and jerky, with the proprietary driver compiled the gears run smoothly.
I don't know if it makes any difference in the end result but it's different in that way at least.

Frugal installations of spup-121.01 are working great on both my hd and a usb installation.
As I indicated before, my computer will not boot from usb, however, it does boot properly using grub on the hd. My menu.lst code is:
| Code: | title USB Test (sdc1/test)
uuid 82746f81-9a2e-4407-b7ff-623cedaadb1d
kernel /test/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdc1 psubdir=test
initrd /test/initrd.gz | The installation is done manually to a test subdirectory on my usb sdc1. The uuid code is found by using gparted, highlighting the partition, and looking at Partition, Information. It works great, in fact, I'm posting from it now using the new Firefox 5.0b2 posted by playdayz. F11 key works, so that Firefox problem has been corrected.
I have run into one problem. I was unable to edit my menu.lst file because it's on an ntfs partition. I got the attached error message.
I believe that I will stick with the 2.6.37.6 kernel, although I will test the older kernel.
Will we see an upload of your KDE test anytime soon?
Cheers,
Jim

Frugal installation of 121.02 with kernel 2.6.35
works fine, I'm posting from it now using Firefox 5.0b2. It does not have the problem mounting ntfs partitions r/w that I reported earlier.
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim
I am actually compiling that Firefox right now, it's my next post, provided it compiles!
Intriguing that ntfs problem.. I must have missed it but I had the kernel installed for a week, and was sure I wrote to ntfs, though when I found the other showstoppers I abandoned development.. I posted it mainly because I wasn't going to post the 2.6.35 version until Saturday, but it came together well as I was uploading 2.6.37.6 version so I posted both.
I'm thinking to stick with 2.6.35 (actually 2.6.35.13 using Iguleders patch so it is a later version than fluppy)
Cheers
