Thank you playdayz,
Will this pet 'eat' from my save file?

Firewallstate 1.9: update, starts up quicker and stays off
Stays off? is that a good idea?

That's reasonable. I can live with that.
Thanks

That seemed to be what people wanted. If they turn the program off so it disappears from the systray, then they want it to stay disappeared. The program stays off, not the firewall.

Do I understand this correctly?

Ok you mean the icon stays off. Sorry . That just looked strange to me.

Firewallstate,
Yep as playdayz says, by request it can be removed and stay off.

Sorry Larry, Psync now up to version 2.1 with changes that reflect UTC as a choice for hardware clock (and follows first setup window tick box). The report window reflects this and will update accordingly from the net.

That should be included in the update then, eh? I had seen some discussion.

Firewall OFF!

Leave F/W off.

It is too confusing for newbies and experienced people too when trying to install and test LAN/WAN/NAS/SAN communicating applications when not knowing how to manipulate that F/W.

It would be in everyone's best interest to leave it off and allow the user to select the time-frame for turning on the F/W,

One thing that should ALSO help is when the PUPPY F/W is turned on, there should have been and there should be some explanation on how to disable it when necessary or when testing in needed. None exist, today when the F/W is activated in ANY Puppy. A pop-up on activation/deactivation directions-message would be wise and beneficial. Further, useful messages like this should NOT be considered to be bloat, either.

Hope this helps.

I agree with this.

I haven't changed the default. Firewall is off at first boot.

It's just that firewallstate tray icon has a menu entry now to close and remove the app itself. i.e. it doesn't reappear after a reboot.

There is a On/Off for the firewall in the right click menu if the firewall is installed. This is where I started with this small app, I was testing LAN and Printers on network. :)

Firewall OFF by default

I cannot wait for Randsec to come along and proffer his wisdom on this topic! Better get your asbestos trousers on!

It is nice to see some reasons for the default off though, even if I am not entirely sure it is a good idea for the kind of newbie that cannot do anything for themselves.

Suggestion,

Help in the menu
Help on the desktop

Both of these should point to the help page in Lucid Puppy News.
http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/LupuNews/index4.html

There is more and better help here.
The present help gives no help about problems and some of it is outdated.
The page could be placed in /usr/share/ doc so internet connection not required to read.

If you do not want to drop the present help, at least add this page as say
Menu->help-> Lucid puppy help

@bigpup - problem is if the puppy is just starting up and doesn't have internet setup, initial info needs to be local, maybe what's needed is that it includes a pointer to the url.

If you put a copy of the Lucid Puppy News help page in /usr/share/doc it will be local.
That is how help works now.
Help opens the file index.html in /usr/share/doc

Suggestion,

Add this to the Lucid Puppy News help page.
Very good pictured guide on how to setup a wireless connection in Lucid Puppy.

My test of instant update 001 beta2.

Everything was updated and is working with new changes.

Only issue:
To see the newer version of Firewallstate.
Had to restart X server.
