Yes indeed. I am also going to link the Help page to the Lucid Help page as you suggest.

My test of instant update 001 beta2.

Everything was updated and is working with new changes.

Only issue:
To see the newer version of Firewallstate.
Had to restart X server.

This is the same as the first message in this thread

This is the release of
Instant Update 001 for Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 (known as the Bigpup Update) ->
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... te-001.pet
The update
--> fixes Bootflash which did not work in the release of Lucid 5.2.5
--> fixes xgamma-gui which did not work in the release of Lucid 5.2.5
--> updates Psync to be aware of both UTC and local system time
--> updates Firewallstate to leave program icon off on reboot when turned off
--> adds report-video-glx which might be a useful standard for diagnosing video issues
--> adds ffconvert to convert between video formats
--> updates the Lupu PPM in Puppy Package Manager

The pet is 132KB.

It would be nice if the main menu bug was fixed , so here is the link for the main menu bug fix.

Thank you. After deliberation, the "menu bug" didn't seem worth the risk, since the menus do work. But it is good to have the fix easily available.

playdayz:

You might say those two libraries have been tested mostly in Wary and Quirky, because that is where their from. Of 65 downloads no one has reported a failure in Lupu 5.2.5.

Thank you duke

There is, or rather was, a serious limitation with Aufs if we choose to save a session to the entire partition rather than a file.

Booting off Flash drive or frugal hard-drive installation, at first shutdown we have the option of saving to the entire partition if it is a Linux filesystem. However, with Aufs that meant we could no longer mount SFS files, as Aufs saw a conflict if the the SFS files are in the partition (and thus present on one layer of the layered filesystem.
A patch for Aufs to permit an SFS to be present on one layer and mounted via loop device as another layer.

Note, the patched Aufs is in my 2.6.33.2 kernel PET.
The Aufs kernel patch is here:
http://bkhome.org/sources/kernel-2.6.33.2/patches/

How do you get this patch installed to Lucid Puppy 5.2.5?

new version of right click package 4.8

#26 Post by don570 »

new version 4.8 of my right click options package
which offers additional right click options for convenience.

I made a few small changes to my Right click package on the suggestion of
smokey01

1) More options for text files and internet files
2) Also a partition can be searched by pfind
3) MIME was changed so that GIMP xcf files can be opened with a
single click

lupu-right-click-4.8.pet size 30k

Tough one. It is a kernel patch Bigpup and afaik that means it is applied to the kernel sources before or at the time of compiling the kernel.

Also afaik, Barry makes the patched-kernel-sources available. 01micko compiled the 2.6.33.2 kernel for Lucid that has worked very well for us. In that case, I believe he *started* with Barry's patches but also made some of his own.

I wonder if the people who are compiling the advanced kernels have looked at Barry's patched sources (which he doesn't have of course for the advanced kernel, but still, who knows, the recent ones might have something useful in them).

The Aufs kernel patch was made 26 Apr 2011.
The problem it fixes is in Lucid Puppy 5.2.5, so I do not think he used it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply he did, only to illustrate that Barry has prepared patches for each kernel he has compiled, and 01micko added some to that set. By extension, the new aufs patches will have to be compiled into a new build of a kernel.

I saw earlier tonight that it had already been done, but I can't find it again.

Booting a computer from USB drive, with no internal hard drive installed, was failing to boot.
Barry has found a fix for this.
