PPMo - Puppy Package Manager in the cloud

#1 Post by noryb009 »

Right now, there is a problem: it's challenging to find dot pets for new users. While most users on the forum can find them easily, it's hard for someone to find the latest version of the program they want that is compatible with their Puppy.

To solve this problem, I created PPMo (Puppy Package Manager online), which can be added to by anyone, and give users a way to get the latest version, or find new ones.

So far, I haven't found any bugs. If you want to help test, you can get an account by PM-ing me.

Anyway, the site is here. I hope I get a few testers. Suggestions are always welcome, also!

This could effectively replace PPM, due to the need for Internet to download the packages.

I hope this takes off better than the "petstore" did.

Maintained properly, this could be a truly great resource. Like the forum search without all the crud and false-positives.
I think I'd like to give it a shot. I'll send you a PM, noryb009.

EDIT: The field "package name" seemed redundant given the format of the example, so I instead used the actual package name. Let me know if that is improper or creates difficulties.

A suggestion: It might be useful to have a field for the relevant forum thread. Many of the more interesting packages have dependencies that vary between Puppy versions, and thread posts can explain this quite well. (They can also warn of quirks, qualify if ideally universal binaries have only been tested in certian versions, etc.).

not to put you down nory, as i appreciate your work but,
I just brought a script that can do this among other things like do a web ring

perhaps this can organize the community a bit?

your more than welcome to become a admin of the script if you would like

and I might need some help intergrating it into the CMS, not sure yet

But let me know if your still busy

Thanks,

With much regards,
Saturn

What about releasing the source code under the GPLv3 (Current version.)?

that would be nice, as we can all help...

but it would also be a good thing if people stick to using noryb009s site, as a centralised place for many pets is better that lots of clone sites..

And I should say I still intend to upload a lot of stuff to the site, but have been embarrassingly slow to get round to it

Here is the source code, you can do anything with it. (Even take over the world... not sure how it would help you.)

Please note: you should NOT create another online PPMo. The whole reason behind PPMo is to organize the .pet s on the internet. If you make another PPMo, it will defeat that purpose. However, if you want to put one online, PM me with a reason and I might allow it.

New pianobar from Debian Sid

#16 Post by rokytnji »

Just a carry over from

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62581
Well post here and at your other link. Pandora radio broke your piano bar with a "please update libpiano" error. So I made 2 updated Debian Sid pets for pianobar. It is working but throws a couple of errors. Just a Biker. Not a good programmer. Maybe better minds than mine can figure out errors.

Made this in Puppy 5.2. It is playing pandora now for me.
Playing since I posted

Code: Select all

[?] Select station: 23
|> Station "The Cult Radio" (376063668608468370)
(i) Receiving new playlist... Ok.

Error I get but it works.

Thanks but nope. I made that pet out of necessity for my puppy installs. I posted it because it worked out for me. First time I ever made a pet out of a deb and got lucky.

If I needed to grab more dependencies than I had. I might have gotten lost. Just a home user. Trying to help when I can. I run AntiX also. So when I get something working in AntiX that is small and will benefit Puppy users. I will post here and at morgonzolas thread if I successfully make a pet out of a deb. I would hate to break someones install of Puppy with my ineptness. Still Learning.

Another carry over

#19 Post by rokytnji »

Update: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 1&start=15

My previous Deb Pets were rendered useless again by Pandora site again. Got the "please update libpiano 0 error"

So made myself some new ones. I still use the old faad2-2.7 pet by MyWolfe and my old libao4 pet I posted a few posts up. (this in in my Link posted at beginning of post here)

These pets fixed pinaobar for me. I made them in Puppeee 4.4

I uninstalled old pianobar only using Puppeee package Manager (same as Puppy package manager) before installing these new pets I made.

Code: Select all

[~] pianobar
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libroar.so => dlopen() failed
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libnas.so => dlopen() failed

I still ignore the errors in terminal when pianobar launches since it works OK for me. Just to reiterate, these are converted Debian Sid Packages.

EDIT: These pets are now no good as of 2011/9/23

 I forgot all about this!

Good thing a thread in the "Puppy Power" section reminded me!

I guess I'd better go update my listed packages, eh? Maybe tomorrow, though; I like early morning- say, 3 to 4 am- for that type of thing.
