Spup-099 with 2.6.38.2 kernel Subject description: Totally unofficial, unsupported experimental version of Spup |
|
This is basically a release of Spup I put together using Pemasu's 2.6.38.2 kernel. Why Spup...... this iso is only 112 mb and I like small Pups.
The usual disclaimers ........this is unofficial, totally experimental and there are no plans to really go any further with it. A few people wanted to try it so I uploaded it.
Works good on my hardware so try it if you wish.

Pemasu will be using latest woof and some added things today on his Icepup so the thermal problem for acer netbooks get solved. Maybe that will be a needed thing to do on your Spup099 too? Fan never started so they can easily overheat if a newbie not being observant on them. But it is good that they are warned with the Highly experiments but sometimes that does not help on optimistic persons.

James C and nooby. Fan worked for me with this version. But i didnt get thermal information.
Right now I am building next Ice Puppy with recompiled kernel.
Lets see how it works.
So I didnt have overheating problem with my laptop. I really feel the warming even when i for example compile with all 4 cores at maximum speed.
My laptop was cool when there wasnt hard work going.

The fan when it is running makes the hot air go to a outdoor sensor that I've placed in front of the Netbooks fan out grill and that give the surpsing result on most puppies that the Therm says it is 27C degrees but the real termp is about 36plus but due to the fan never starting on the new kernel I have no idea what the temp are.
Si one can not start it manually either? using some cli command in the console/terminal rxvt something ? # run cpu_fan whatever
That way one would know. But I guess it sort out when you get the new one going.
I'll go test Micko's new Spup100 iso now within some hour have to make snow5sfs first

Downloaded and installed.
Got the desktop and my application environment/setup.
But no luck for internet.
I didn't get a network device for my ipw2100 WiFi adapter altho the ipw2100 module is loaded.

I may go ahead and upgrade this when I'm able to get my hands on pemasu's latest and greatest kernel.I like experimenting with this build because it's so small though.
If someone wants to use something more stable supported I'd recommend Ice Puppy.....this is just a little experimental plaything.

Thanks for testing.
This is basically pemasu's Ice Puppy kernel, modules, initrd and firmware transplanted into Spup........ this may be a version or two behind though.

hmmm, Pemasu's Ice Puppy 001 is working ok on the same machine.
But if I understand well, the difference is the kernel.
Maybe there is something broken for ipw2100.
