Ice Puppy has foxlibs installed because of xfe file manager. There is also nice goggles music manager which uses fox libs but it needs xine libs also.
I searched and found that dxirc also is foxlibs app.
Just for fun of it I compiled it, tested and made pet of it.
It should autoconnect to the puppylinux forum.
There is really no need for third irc app, but if you feel boring, give it a spin

It is something like xchat. You get spelling working by installing libaspell from ubuntu repo by using ppm.

I can not boot ice puppy 004 from flash drive setup by unetboot. Although I edited the configuration files on the unetboot by changing pmedia=cd to pmedia=usbflash, it still searches for puppy files on the hard drive and drops me to terminal.

Pemasu, finally got a chance to d/l and test out Ice-puppy 4. Got some problems. The worst is lost my USB mouse - don't know why - had it in Ice-Puppy 1. Noticed on boot-up that the ENE card reader not enabled. Did a lsmod command and noticed that keucr was not loaded - did a modprobe keucr and got an error message, text attached.

Good news, modprobe coretemp worked. I also installed xsensor - nice graphic - didn't work in other pup (Snow-Puppy 14, I believe).

Tried lupe11.pet for the new kernel - didn't work, was it supposed to?

I still like the speed of Ice-puppy but miss the mouse - hate the trackpad - am dyslexic, scientific way to say basically clumsy - and miss the card reader.

It has an nvidia ion graphics chip and I install the proprietary

The screen resolution should be 1440x900 but other than that it's working okay.

Myke, marco07 et al. Thank you of your reports. There is something wrong in that reuploaded version.
The keucr does not give that error for me. Yes, my laptop started to use keucr for my sd card reader when it was available.
Myke, it would help if you could track which kernel module is behind your usb mouse.
Good news. Unetbootin failed for me also so now I can debug usb unetbootin myself.
I start debuggineg immediately systematically now. First notice, my ext4 had errors when I ran fsck. It just can be that the build was corrupted.

Myke, The kernel pet is for woof building. You cant use it just by installing it. I am not fan of kernel switching. I will support woof building method only.

I believe atm the problem was with build, not the kernel per se.
But corrupted file system. Damn. It means that the kernel compile can be corrupted also. Alright, I will do it clean way. I will recompile the kernel also and make new pet of it. Fortunately I have the building Ice Puppy still intact, so everything is ready for new compile. Kernel sources, specs so it just take time, but not effort much.

Probably I will make fresh new Ice Puppy-005 build after all these procedures has been done. It will take some time.

I will take the reuploaded version out from ftp server now, so that none else will have problems.
Well well, RHE releases are like that.

I know that development could go also so that developer tests profoundly before releases the build. But I just like it this way. When people debugs at the beginning there always will be found bugs which would have been unnoticed. I have already fixed some puppy bugs based on forum feedback.

Compiling kernel now again. Based on reports in this thread and the 2.6.38.3 kernel thread I have gone through all the kernel specs and modified the previous specs. Just for fun of it and also to maybe make it more hw friendly.f
I found also the bug in my miscellaneous filesystem section. Aufs was compiled static, not as module as it should be.
Probably reason to that usb nonbooting failure.

Hi pemasu,

could you tell me please, where is the ISO of Ice Puppy-004?
I've only found the DEVX of Ice Puppy-004.

Thanks

Pesamu, sorry for the report. Somehow by trying to update the save file all the problems arose. I guess I don't understand the workings of the save file and the kernel (which I thought would take care of the mouse and the card reader). Starting Ice-Puppy 4 w/o the save file has eliminated the problems with the mouse and the card reader.

I modprobed coretemp and installed xsensor, which both work fine.

myke
