Puppy doesn't see Belkin wireless USB card (Solved)

#1 Post by sumithar »

I have installed Puppy/Wary on an old Dell 620 Latitude laptop (P3, 256MB RAM) and was pleasantly surprised at the performance.
Even more surprised when it recognised the Belkin W/L lan adapter I plugged into a USB port.

Alas it had only the 1 USB port and it got damaged.

So I bought a PCMCIA card with 2 USB ports and attached that. During the bootup process it appeared to recognize that I had attached USB "device" via PCMCIA...it did some kind of count from 1 to 10 and then said USB.

This is the eBay link to the item I bought
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... OU:US:1123

But unfortunately it doesn't recognize the Belkin adapter now that it's plugged into the PCMCIA-USB port.

Any thoughts?

Readout is from my IBM a22m using a Belkin F5D 7010 ver. 6 Wireless G pcmcia card.

I am not sure if your pcmcia usb 2,0 card is recognized. I run a cheap chinese usb 2 port with 2 firewire ports (mini and regular firewire slots) external pcmcia card but my wireless is a separate pcmcia card. In other words. I don't use usb wireless through pcmcia card.

I would go into Menu>System>Sustem Status and Config> pupscan interface connection and select USB devices and see if your wireless usb stick is seen in there and if a driver is loaded for it. Will be a Different Description and Vendor but readout should look somewhat like mine. So go there

Code: Select all

DESCRIPTION: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
VENDOR: 1814 DEVICE: 0301 KERNEL MODULE: rt61pci
first to see if USB is being recognized through external pcmcia usb 2.0 Cardbus. inxi won;t work for you because I installed that script manually myself. You;ll just get a no command found error if you run that command.

Good Luck and Happy Trails, Rok :)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply...

I don't know what I did, maybe jiggled it a bit but after a couple of reboots it's working fine now.

Very pleased!
