MACPUP Cannot Install any other web browser

#1 Post by GodsDead »

Im new to puppylinux, and have recently installed macpup 511, The built in Midori web browser works, but i don't want to use it!
I have installed Chrome, Firefox and Opera Via "Quickpet install popular Programes" install seems to be successful, but when i run any of them via the internet menu It gives me:

Code: Select all

Chrome Web Browser stopped running unexpectedly.
There was no error message.
I checked the log and it just displays the same message!
How do i fix this, i would prefer to use Chrome.

Thanks.

You need to install the update for quickpet.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=256

Then install what ever browser you want. Run it from the terminal to see if it is missing any dependencies.

How do i run teh browser via the terminal?
click the console icon :P

and type

Code: Select all

chrome
firefox
opera

You can also type

Code: Select all

defaultbrowser
to check :

Code: Select all

file `which chrome`
to look for help :

Code: Select all

firefox -h
some commands also use the -help or --help option

some apps may have a wrapping shellscript like `defaultbrowser`usually is

to look for simmilar commands :

Code: Select all

fire [2xTAB-key]
example output :
[puppypc]# fire
firefox
firefox-config
firewall_install.s
firewall_installREADME.txt
firewallinstallshell

if you're outa pupsave or memory this startupdenial may happen, too ...

btw : the Macpup Foxy 3 Firefox is one of the best I encountered so far , until now upgraded to 3.5.17 , I think it started with 3.5.05 8)

The new quickpet .pet in that thread is designed for macpup , I use it all the time. You can also use the package manager to get the same .pets

I did the update thing via the Macpup app list thing, that took hours to update... that didn't solve much.
