" i'm brian and so is my wife "

""""""""

Seen that movie >> The Wife of Brian.

///////

And along comes >> Freddy Thirty.

Know what I'm tempted to do?

Pay once for Puppy Studio 4....
and upload it to the Pirate Bay.....Whinie Boy.

How do you like those onions....Sue me?

////////////

l0wt3ch and his avatar was not on.
Not only a total distraction, some people of a more gentle nature
were offended.

More than once he was asked to change it....nicely.

Unfortunately it wasn't just the once, that he abused the crap out
of people here.

Maybe it was grief.
Maybe grief and booze.
Maybe grief and other substances.

His skills may have been top notch but he was a loon.

No matter what is claimed by you or anyone else,
he was a top grade asshole for deleting his posts
and rendering everything useless for all who contributed
to Puppy Studio.

I personally wish him no ill, he can even make money,

but when there is no acknowlegement to Barry Kauler,
and all the devs from whom he ripped his creation from,
and not a donation in sight to BK...
well expect a kick in the nuts boyo.

And remember my little threat above...my dear.

Chris.

I, for one, am glad cthisbear is part of the "Puppy community" - he represents it so well!

It's also good that someone who is obviously mentally handicapped can somehow manage to use Linux. Maybe he can't create anything cool himself, but we shan't expect too much out of the poor fellow.

And he's right. l0wt3ch has nothing to complain about. Even if he did get banned for deleting some of his own posts, and the moderators started a flame thread for him and his creation to be insulted, this is totally normal. Everybody knows that. When you're a clever mod, with an eye to fairness, AS BOTH FLASH AND JOHN MURGA OBVIOUSLY ARE, that is what you do. It's called being professional.

And when it comes to this forum/community being known as a haven for "possibly dangerous" idiots, that's just because those people are biased against Puppy. Those reviewers don't know what they are talking about. All they have to do is spend some time on the forum, and get to know a few people like cthisbear, dewbie, James C, etc., and they would change their opinion. Either that, or cthisbear would kick them in the nuts. One or the other.

Either way, this forum is the best and everybody's smart. Accusations of childish, abusive, behavior on the part of users and mods are preposterous, and everyone here are normal, intelligent, people.

Hey, does the forum's sponsor know just how classy this forum is? If not, someone should tell them. Maybe they'll buy even more advertising!

@ Big Harv: May I be frank. I suspect that you are lowtech or connected to him. You joined recently & your first post was to say how good Studio 4 was. You immediately appear knowledgeable about the puppy forums.

Whether you & Freddy thirty are lowtech or just his supporters may I give you some advice from someone who has been selling to the public for thirty years: be nice to people. 'More flies are won with honey than with vinegar'. Some of us do give to open source or buy things. However, You are risking alienating people who might actually be interested in studio 4. Every one alienated is another potential customer lost.

" You joined recently "

There are many lurkalots on the Puppy Forum.

Many never sign up because they resolve their issues
through the postings of others.

Some come because we are a refreshing addition compared to
many other forums around the world.

And who would want to join in here with the likes of me around.

So let's not get too paranoid.

And for what it's worth Big Harv...welcome....at last...to Puppy.

Chris.

@Guy: No, let me be Frank.

Aren't you the one who wrote earlier in this thread that you were happy l0wt3ch was still working on this project, but then asked for the "community" to make it when you found out it cost money? If you're legitimately poor, then I understand. But if you're just a cheapskate who wants others to work for him for free, then you are the embodiment of the "welfare mentality" somebody alluded to earlier.

What a Guy!

I removed Frank Smith from the membership. His IP address came through an anonymizer somewhere in Europe. My guess is, he's channeling jonyo. Anyway, I'm tired of dealing with his kind in this forum. Go to hell "Frank", and stay there this time.

Ok!

The object of the game is to post comments faster than Flash can delete them.

This is because he's a prick who likes to throw his big old gay weight around and has no respect for the forum guidelines... so why should we?

Remember kids - Tor is your friend. And there ain't no cure.

@ Frank Smith or whatever you are now calling yourself. If you read back in this thread I am one of the the one's who has tried to be nice about lowtech & hope for reconciliation.

As for my circumstances, I am currently worrying whether I will have a job by the end of the year & whether my wife of 20 years will be alive next year (cancer). Compared to that, all the juvenile posturing & whining going on seems pathetic.

BTW: Studio 4 is a Steinberg product in their cubase range. Has anybody checked to see if it is a trademark?

1. What is the best version of Puppy to record sound now that Puppy Studio isn't being actively developed?

2. Which derivatives use the RealTime kernel and does this really make a difference to the recording performance?

1. that would depend on what hardware you intended to run that puppy on, what sound you wished to record (electronic/software generated and/or acoustic via microphone), to what quality you wished to record that audio at (sample rate/bit depth), how you wished to record/monitor said audio i/o (hardware/software, live multitrack and/or overdub and/or midi input/output/composition) and with what audio hardware and computer software.

2. i am unaware of any current rt pups but may be wrong, maybe check the cutting edge sub forum for news of development, and as far as i know it will only really affect real time software audio monitoring performance/latency which will be dependant on your computer hardware.

the greatest difficulty appears to be hardware/driver compatability and the usual advice if building a linux daw is to research the hardware first before buying anything to make sure it is supported by your chosen os.

.

Art Dual Pre USB
Lexicon Omega USB
Alesis iO2 USB
and
Gina 20bit PCI Card

all show up in Jack and run in Puppy Studio 3.3rt

and realtime kernels can make a difference
especially for multitrack audio.

for certain
Puppy Studio 3.3 vanilla without a realtime kernel barely runs
compared to what Puppy Studio 3.3rt can do.

with a realtime kernel
you can run Hydrogen drum machine audio out
into Ardour, Reaper, or other multi-track software
send the output into Jamin' mastering software
and all while syncing midi files in Rosegarden and pumping
the audio through Rackarrack effects and back into the multi-track software

essentially mixing and mastering multi-track, midi-synced audio on the fly.

I've done this exact thing with an Athlon X-2 dual core 2ghz Toshiba laptop.

RT access normal kernel

#304 Post by Guy »

If you run jack or qjackctl on a stock kernel make sure to enable the realtime option. I found myself (to my surprise) getting better results with this option in stock puppy even though the kernel is not an rt one & then found this at the jack website:

http://www.jackaudio.org/realtime_vs_realtime_kernel

apparently a lot of rt scheduling stuff is in the mainline kernel now.

I tend to use my rig mainly as a modest recording studio & stock puppy seems to work fine with the right apps installed. If you want a lot of processing on the inputs or need to sync a lot of outboard gear the stock kernel might not be enough.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys. I'm going to do some experimenting to see what works best.

One of the things I found annoying about Studio 3.3 is that it doesn't seem to let you choose where to store the puppy Save File or where to load it from.
