Bible Analyzer

#1 Post by Jim1911 »

After reading Subito Piano's comment, I decided to give Bible Anayzer a try.
Subito Piano wrote:There's a bit of to-do over BibleAnalyzer, i think in the Ubuntu forums. I was maybe the only one who couldn't install it under Wine -- ?!?! Might be worth a look, not to divert this thread -- but i can't comment on it except i know some others really liked it.
According to their web site Bible Analyzer is a free, comprehensive Bible study and analysis software application developed to aid Believers in their study and defense of the Holy Scriptures. It has several features (such as text comparison, proximity searches, detailed statistics, etc.) usually not found in other free or commercial Bible software programs.

There are both Windows and Linux versions available for download:

(1) Bible Analyzer 4.1 Freeware Download
  • Full version of Bible Analyzer 4.1 with the following modules,
    Authorized Version, 1769 (Bible)
    American Standard Version, 1901 (Bible)
    American Tract Society Bible Dictionary (Dictionary)
    Torrey's Topical Textbook (Dictionary)
    Peoples New Testament (Commentary)
    Scofield Bible Notes (Commentary)
    Scofield Bible Index (Dictionary)
    FB Meyer (Devotion)
    Ten+ Books and Articles
    Sample Images
    10 High-Quality Old-Fashioned Hymns (Midi)
    Four Parallel/Harmony Modules
    More Free Modules are Available on our Modules Page
    Ubuntu/Linux (9.04, "Hardy"), 9.5 meg. (4-22-10)
(2) Bible Analyzer 3.9.3 Linux Installation Guide & Download

My observations:

Linux Version--I could not get it to work.

The linux version is a deb file and can be installed using Lucid 5.2 just by clicking on the deb file. It installed, however, would not work since it also requires Python. I installed Python using the PPM and it still did not work.

Windows Version

With Wine already installed, just double click on the downloaded exe and it installs perfectly.

The only problem is in getting it to run using the menu which is accomplished easily by creating two files:

(1) Create an executable bibleanalyzer.sh with an editor with the following code:

Code: Select all

env WINEPREFIX=/root/.wine wine "C:\Program Files\Bible Analyzer 4\BibleAnalyzer4.exe"
(2) Save it and make sure that the file is executable. Copy the file to /usr/bin.

Create a Bible Analyzer 4.desktop with an editor using the following code:

Code: Select all

Name=Bible Analyzer 4
Exec=bibleanalyzer4.sh
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Path=/root/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Bible Analyzer 4
Icon=/root/.local/share/icons/75DE_BibleAnalyzer4.0.png
Save it and copy it to /usr/share/applications and if desired place a copy on the desktop also. In a console run fixmenus, followed by restartingX.

Note: You may need to do a search and make certain that the paths are correct on the items above i.e. on one pup the desired icon was at /root/.local/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/75DE_BibleAnalyzer4.0.png

There are numerous additional modules that can be downloaded
for a fee and also public domain in bundles for a nominal price. In addition, there are a great many public domain modules that are available free.

In my opinion, it is a worthwhile addition for Bible study. :lol:

Installation of BibleAnalyzer software

#2 Post by Jim1911 »

Just some hints for newbys to assist installation of BibleAnalyzer software. I have found BibleAnalyzer offers some additional capability and some free software that is not available with e-Sword. Definitely worth trying.

1. Download and install green_dome's latest wine-1.4-rc5 which works great.

2. Download BibleAnalyzer and any additional modulesthat you desire to install. To install BibleAnalyzer or additional modules, just double click on the the downloaded file.

3. To get BibleAnalyzer to show up in your menu, a BibleAlalyzer.desktop file must be prepared that is recognized by the puppy menu system.

4. The attached BibleAnalalyzer-4.x.pet places an executable file bibleanalyzer4.sh in /usr/bin, a customBibleAnalyzer4.desktop file in /usr/share/applications, and the icon in /usr/share/pixmaps. BibleAnalyzer is found under menu>Personal>Personal information, and if you desire to have it on your desktop, copy BibleAnalyzer4.desktop from /usr/share/applications to your desktop.

This has been tested with the latest Lucid, Lighthouse, and Fatdog64.

Enjoy,
Jim

The Windows Downloadinstalls or updates without problem.

There is an older linux deb installation file that is available that also requires python. However, I am still unsuccessful at getting it to operate although it and python appear to install properly.

Bible Analyzer 4.6.1.10
Bible Analyzer Newsletter wrote:Greetings Bible Analyzer Users: Bible Analyzer 4.6 Update

We have developed a significant update to Bible Analyzer over the last few months that adds some unique and powerful features. The most notable is the new Library Reference Index.

The Library Reference Index is a new tab under the Reference Panel beside the Bible Panel. As many of you know the Reference Panel displays the TSKe cross-references for the current verse. The Library Index Tab now shows all the titles and topics that contain the current verse within its text!

Even more than displaying all the titles that contain the verse, when the cursor is over a title or topic name a preview of the text will display in a popup with the verse highlighted. This make it very easy to quickly scan all the loaded modules for the selected verse.

There are more new features in version 4.6 as well. Including a popup of the current verse when the cursor is place over a Bible tab and the Ctrl key is pressed. Popups also occur when the cursor is over a Dictionary and Commentary tab with the Ctrl key pressed. View comments by chapter is now available. Popups of cross-module links, etc. See the video above for more details.

Download Bible Analyzer 4.6 today. As always it is FREE. Many of these features are not available with any other software.

The latest Bible Analyzer 4.7.2.15 is now available and appears to be their best version yet. Unfortunately, I have had no success installing the Linux version on Puppy. The Windows version works fine except for the audio functions.

I really like this version,

This month we have new editions of Bible Analyzer to announce, free ebooks to offer, and a new Spurgeon collection.

Bible Analyzer 4.7 Now For All Platforms

Bible Analyzer 4.7 for Macintosh and Linux is ready to go along with the Windows edition. Now the unique search capabilities of 4.7 along with the AVp Bundle can be used on all three major PC platforms.

See the video to the right for a demonstration of the features of 4.7.

AVp Bundle A Big Hit

With the release of the AVp last month Bible Analyzer has brought Bible searching to a new level. The AVp makes it possible to find all verses a person is in regardless of the name used, and concerning the Lord, even by pronouns like he, him, thou, thine, my, and I!

The AVp bundle has quickly become our most popular premium download. If you don't have it yet, see this page for more details and screenshots or watch this Youtube Video.

Spurgeon's Sermon Notes

This month we intoduce all four volumes of Spurgeon's detailed sermon notes. There are nearly 270 sets of notes in this collection. These are not mere outlines but extensive notes with illustrations and quotes from some of Spurgeon's favorite authors.

In addition to the Bible Analyzer modules, this download also includes the notes in ePub (iPad, Nook) and mobi (Kindle) formats. This way the notes can be placed on your eBook reader and read anywhere.

Order and Download, w/eBooks
Charles Spurgeon Sermon Notes — Only $3

Free EBooks & More

As with the Spurgeon Notes above, to make the material we offer for Bible Analyzer of even more value to our users, we have began to offer some of them as eBooks at no extra cost.

This month we took our Handfuls of Purpose volumes (all 12!) and combined them into a single ePub and/or mobi ebook. Now James Smith's and Robert Lee's classic work is available on a mobile device! As far as we know this is a first for these 12 volumes.

If you already purchesed the Handfuls of Purpose set for Bible Analyzer, you can get the ebooks simply by going to your Order History at the Bible Analyzer Store and download the updated setup file. It will install the ebooks in your Documents folder.

If you don't yet have Handfuls of Purpose, you can order and download it from here,
