No they don't. neither do deadbeef, songbird, lxmusic, mediaplayer, gnome player or amarok

the only thing that played wma lossless was foobar.

Also i tested a few more of the gecko plugins for firefox, as stated the divx played perfectly, realplayer some played, but some did not. and quicktime none that i found played.
i don't think that's such a big deal though as you only really get quicktime nowadays inside apples walled garden, and realplayer 'thank god' is mostly a thing of the past.. Divx and flash are the most important and they both work fine.

Thank goodness we have foobar! I am surprised about some of the others though. Thanks for that testing.

Would anyone think a small non-graphical file manager would be a worthwhile addition. I like rox and I can use it and I do like the graphics, but some of my Woof folders take a long time for rox to load. Recommendations? There are several under Filesystems in PPM. Thanks.

Hope I am not derailing. In another part of teh forum a guy did ask about a lupu related question. He claimed that he had tried to installed Thunar from the PPM.

I am in Snow now so will not take time to look at the ppm.

But are there two kinds of Thunar? One being a pet made by devs of Lupu or supporters of puppy and lupu and them uploading it to the PPM and then another way to reach through the PPM the official Ubuntu repo that have unprepared Thunar that only works after one made it safe for Lupu to use?

The version he tried failed when he installed it.

Should he make a bug report here or just trust that it is a hit and miss thing to use the Lupu repo?

I find it most likely he found the orginal Thunar made for Ubuntu and that one need to make a pet to install it properly?

Am I right or wrong? I never used Thunar but trust it is a bit like Rox?

Barrys Transmission pet that he said should work on other Puppys, did briefly, then stopped.
So I went back to the one in Lucid.

Was trying to play a movie full screen in avi fomat with subtitles.
No luck with Gnome mplayer (film jerky)
or VLC (no subtitles)
Quite shocked as normally between these two can play most things . . .

In the end watched it in Ubuntu 10:10 in Gnome mplayer which I had on the system.

just reporting back - not sure of solutions
I should imagine Ubuntu has more of the Gnome libraries . . .

Lucview - tried with 3 logitech webcams - nothing
Does it do anything for anyone?

My understanding about the Ubuntu repositories in PPM.
The programs can be downloaded and used.
One very big and important thing
When you download one:
Prior to the actual download, you have the option to check for needed dependency files.
If any are found, they will be added to the download. So, you could see the program you picked and a long list of other files, that will also be downloaded.
These files must be downloaded for the program to work.
In the Lucid Puppy Repository:
All the pets are setup for Lucid Puppy and have everything they need.
The stuff in the Lucid Puppy repository is sometimes newer and for sure more stable.

Announcing Luci 253 - The Most Leading-Edge Lucid Ever

#415 Post by Billtoo »

xfe-1.32.2-i686.pet (X File Explorer) is a file manager similar to
midnight commander.
fox-1.6.43-i686.pet must be installed also or xfe won't run.

I had to delete the kde icon theme to keep the xfe-1.32.2-i686.pet
under the 2mb size limit for uploading to the forum.
If you want the kde icon theme move kdetheme.tar.gz to /usr/share/xfe/icons
and unpack it there.

I made these pets in 252 and tested them in 253.

I've been using my webcam and Lucview for a few months throughout my testing of previous Luci and now in Luci 253 without having encountered any problems.
It's not a logitech but a cheap generic webcam.

Lucid Puppy 5.2 and the recent devlopment builds are using an increasing number of programs and libraries taken directly from the latest Ubuntu versions
It doesn't really affect your main point Jades, but I think Lucid 5.0 would have had the most purely Ubuntu packages, and Lucid 5.2.1 will have the most packages compiled in Puppy!
I should have clarified that while Lupu up to and including 511 had taken all of their Ubuntu stuff from Lucid whereas 52x includes some newer things from Ubuntu Maverick and Natty.

The suspicion is that one or both of those dropped support for platforms older than "i686" which would explain why certain more... experienced systems can encounter problems while newer hardware doesn't.

Thanks for tracking that down.
Kudos to bigpup for sparking the idea and then testing it for me.
playdayz wrote:Yikes though, that might be a lot of backgrounds. I wasn't planning for this.
We only need the ones from Lupu 511 and 520. Thinking about it, we may only need to match with 520.

An alternative is to have the upgrade routine check if the backdrop exists and force use of default.jpg if it doesn't - implementing that may be non-trivial however.

wishlist -change to galculator

#421 Post by don570 »

Here's my wishlist.

It makes sense to localize the screen capture program in Puppy,
so I did this using Zigbert's method.

I renamed mtpaintsnapshot to psnapshot and made a pet package.
psnapshot-1.3.pet

and here's the French,German and Spanish locals
psnapshot-NLS-1.3.pet

Switch to Galculator, so that foreign languages
can be used. Here's a picture of galculator being used in
French.

I am afraid 520 is all we can match with (and it is already done). There were 1.5MB of themes in 511 and we don't have that space now.

WMA Lossless

medibuntu.org has the w32 codecs, which you can install as a deb and *may* play WMA Lossless in mplayer. I would be curious to know.
http://packages.medibuntu.org/maverick/w32codecs.html
There are a lot of them so it is a 25MB download and a 66MB install.

Ambiword Problem !

#424 Post by sszindian »

There is a problem with Ambiword...

I went to- http://Fonts.Debiam.net and downloaded several various styles of fonts (this site should be available somewhere in the new 521???) Anyway, I fired up Ambiword and started testing these new font styles... Ambiword 'Locked Up' on several of the new fonts and even on some of the original ones!

At first I thought maybe bad downloads of the fonts and was just about to delete them and try again then took a break and thought about it.

15 minutes back on 253 and loaded up MtPaint... put a graphic on screen, started trying the various fonts I downloaded and They All Worked in MtPaint!

Tried the same thing in Insidious002 and the new Spup-056.. "SAME PROBLEM."

Hope this helps someone with Ambiword!
