Hi
Does anybody of you have a running mplayer that recepts successfully a dvb-s2 stream ? dvbs works for me without any issues..
I have failed so far with all my trials to receive dvb-s2.
I use a Tevii S470 card which receives dvb-s2 using Windows ->no defect of the card.
1.) Driver is included in Kernel since 2.6.33. I tried Kernel 2.6.33 up to 2.6.36. No effect. With 2.6.31 I used latest Liplianin drivers. Same result.
2.) I copied the Tevii Firmware to the correct location prior to start with the test. dvb-s is ok but dvb-s2 fails. I used the latest firmware. Somehow suspicious.
3.) I used the installed mplayers of the puplets as well well home-brewed onces, partially even with multi-threading. No effect.
4.) I used w_scan and scan-s2 for channel collection. Has no effect on the result.
It seems to me that mplayer under Puppy is genereally not capable to play dvb-s2 streams. If anybody of you has been operating mplayer with dvb-s2 please give me an info. Then the Tevii-drivers would seem to be responsible for that.
I have never tried xine or others. Is there a recommendation of you as an alternative for mplayer ?
Thank you in advance for a comment.
Christian
I forgot to mention that w_scan and scan-s2 detect HD-channels and store them with a ?correct? syntax in the channels.conf, e.g.
w_scan
Das_Erste_HDh:06010:6020+6021:11100
Sky_Sport_HD_2h:01023:0:114
SAT.1h:0255:256:17500
scan-s2
ANIXE_HDh:00:0:61202:6
Sky_Sport_HD_1h:0767:771:129:6
SAT.1h:0255:2565
Error Message:
dvb_tune Freq: ...
Not able to lock to the signal on the given frequency, timeout: 30 s
dvb tune, TUNING FAILED
ERROR, COULDN'T SET CHANNEL ...
-> Ich will check the syntax and the frequencies of the HD channels.
Edit: Videos encoded with H264 work pretty well. I have installed all essential codecs. I just have red that mplayer would not been able to handle H264 Transport Streams. Not true. I have taken one generated by Windows and it worked pretty well. Retested with the new 1.0RC4. Failure as before. Do the recent Puplets contain an old v4l ? I have seen 5.0.

Some additional comments:
I just have tried Ubuntu 10.10 and Gnome Mplayer. Same result as described before ->all HD stuff isn't shown.
Then I have to believe that I can't make it with HD stuff on my desired route ->start mplayer with option dvb://1@channel description and change channels with mplayer commands by lirc.
Next will be then trials with szap2 where some people in the internet have reported success.

Hello
Short feedback:
I finally managed to get HD-TV running with mplayer. The following Homepage was a great help:
http://de.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Hauppaug ... Nova-HD-S2
->german Version
http://translate.google.de/translate?u= ... =&ie=UTF-8
->translated Version
There has to be one further modification: szap-s2 has to be started with the additional -S 1 command to achieve HDTV.
szap-s2 -n 001 -r -S 1
To start with vdpau I used the command:
mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 -cache 18000 -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpa, -ao alsa
By the way I use SPUP55 for all these tests.

Edit:
With this I managed to get dvb-s2 working. For some reasons it fails with dvb-s. No codec issue. It simply doesn't fill the cache. ''
