Macpup 529

#1 Post by runtt21 »

Prit And I are proud to announce the release of Macpup 529,our newest
e17 Macpup.

MP529 is based on Precise Puppy 5.2.60 , An official woof build of puppy
Linux that is binary-compatible with Ubuntu Precise P packages.
MP529 contains all the apps from Precise Puppy with the addition of
Firefox 14.0.1. MP529 also includes the Enlightenment E17 window manager.
The EFL libraries version 1.2.0 and E17 version 71440 where compiled and
installed from source.

All included E17 themes are By Verdegal37 and where customized for
Macpup by CatDude and Runtt21.

Thank's to everyone that has help or supported the Macpup project:
Ttuuxxx, CatDude, Puppyluvr, Mu, Sneekylinux, Rasterman and all Of the
E17 crew, ZaZoOo, WhoDo, Omskates, Cgt_1991. Joel, Russoodle,
GrumpyWolfe,Maxpro4u, Rokytnji ,01miko & PlayDaze.

Extra Thanks to Agust(Verdegal37), The best E17 Themer on the planet.
And Sakasa for the Default theme backgrounds .

Special Thanks to BarryK the creator of puppylinux and Precise Puppy.

To keep your CPU cool and your fan quiet use the CPU Frequency Scaling
Tool . Menu-applications-system-CPU frequency Scaling Tool

The first time you run Macpup, The system will be running totally in RAM!
Click on Htop on the ibar to check working space left in RAM*. If less than 30MB,
do not run big apps like Firefox -- instead, shutdown Macpup and you will be
asked to create a save file, that will give you more space. You can put the
save file almost anywhere,Hard drive,USB Flash drive,Sd card.Etc...
I recommend 256 MB total system ram for Macpup. You can also check ram by adding
the systray module to the Ibar. Click on the Top Hat on the Ibar to adjust most
system settings. Access the settings panel to make adjustments to e17.
Menu-settings-settings panel or the settings icon on the right end of the Ibar.

Updates for Macpup 529 can be found at http://macpup.org/runtt21/ in the macpup 529 folder,
as well as extra modules and more themes. Please note that macpup is for PC's and
not intended for use on a real "Mac".

Important note about themes, Most of the mp511 themes and up should work in
mp529.

This version of Macpup will boot to desktop in almost all cases and
from that screen you can make adjustments if they are needed or
wanted. The desktop and clock should be correct. If it does not boot to
a graphical screen, it might boot to a “prompt.

If you run into this little white box just press F1 and keep going.

Image

But if something happens and X crashes type xwin enlightenment_start at the prompt. Both cases are extremely rare. This is FYI just in case.

In the macpup 529 folder on my macpup page. http://macpup.org/runtt21/

I have posted the MP529-extramods-01.pet This has extra e17 modules like Flame,Rain,Snow, etc.....

I recommend installing the MP529-sys-update-01.pet this fixes an issue with the cups setup wizard so that Firefox will load the correct page.

This version of macpup is based on Barry K's build of Precise puppy beta 2, a new cutting edge version of puppy linux.

More info about precise puppy:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=76961

Because it's so new there isn't alot of puppy software available for it yet. The main repro is ubuntu's. When you first open the package manager icons wont display correctly. Just close it and then reopen it and it works fine after that. This is a bug in precise that carried over to mp529.

Here are some extra's:

Gimp 2.8 by Shinobar
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/precise/

Apache OpenOffice
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=78709 use the XZ version.

I just came from the new Macpup.org and I just wanted to let you all know about the poor spacing in the new 529 intro.
Macpup is a small, light OS. It runs in ram and is very fast. It is not a striped down, bare bones, basic core OS. Macpup is a full featured systemright out of the box with apps for office, graphics, multimedia, internetand much more. And it looks really cool.
I hope you can fix the above errors.

Errors in the source make programs exit or abort.

But i need a typist that is more comfortable with the keyboard then me, too.

runt21,
Sorry for not downloading atm cos Macpup based upon Puppy 4 series is running too fine .

What i have observed is that if i move and copy a lot of different files or directories using the rox file manager in short time after another from one window to another this Xaw (xmessage) -recover pops up.

(Seems about time to hack it . e17 is difficult to compile, needs current autoconf and automake if from svn. No one ever tried to compile e17 knows how difficult it is !)

Hope you'll get nice reviews as always !

Cheers !

Unfortunately, the localization settings do not work.
After setting the language does not persist correctly, reset to English.

It does have some bugs that were still present in the beta2.

This has the same problem as CheckMate Precise - it cannot connect to the internet using wifi.

I am using TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter with TP-Link TL-ANT2408CL 2.4GHz 8dbi Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna. I also tried Edimax EW-7711UAN 150Mbps Wireless 802.11n High Gain 3dBi USB Adapter. They detected my BT Home Hub & I entered the wireless key - just an error message on screen.

Then I unrolled my 10 metre ethernet cable & finally online.

backi , its based on the precise beta 2 that barry built I know that scaling didn't work on everyone stuff But it worked for me and all the gear my testers used.

This is a development version of macpup I don't except it to do everything for everyone.
