sorry superstar, i had a look for a solution for chrome to handle the links, but couldn't find a way, seems every other browser can but chrome is problematic. you can still copy the link and paste it into amule, ..bit annoying i know. or use a different browser.

firefox works with the links but you have to do this.......
Type about:config into the address bar and press return (don't worry about the warning)
Right click anywhere on the list, select 'New', then 'Boolean'; insert | Code: | | network.protocol-handler.external.ed2k | as Preference Name and 'true' as Value
Now another right click, select 'New' and 'String'; insert | Code: | | network.protocol-handler.app.ed2k | as Preference Name and /usr/bin/ed2k as Value.
For firefox 3 and above there's One more Right click on the list, select 'New', then 'Boolean'; insert | Code: | | network.protocol-handler.expose.ed2k | as Preference Name and 'false' as Value
After that, click over an ed2k link, and Firefox should ask which app you want to use to open the link. Choose /usr/bin/ed2k and it should work.

hi superstar....
i tried this on my firefox and it worked fine, same with another user i was helping with amule, it worked for him also. If you've followed the instructions exactly then i don't know what's wrong. Did firefox not even ask you what application you want to open the link with?

I just looked it up and it is 3.6.6.
Does your version support "moonlight" ?
Also separate query : does amule crash a lot for you?
i'm using an external hard disk as the output for amule and it crashes my external hard drive every 2 days.

just booted to a vanilla lupu520 and installed firefox 3.6.6 from quickpet. Installed the amule.pet and configured firefox from the posted instructions..... clicked on a link, firefox then asked what to use, pointed it at /usr/bin/ed2k and the links now appear in amule when clicked.
So i'm not sure why it's not working for you... as an experiment, if you've got a frugal install, try booting with puppy pfix=ram or if you have a full install boot from the cd with the puppy pfix=ram then install firefox and amule and do the config and see if it works.
As for the crashing, the problem may well be the amule.pet, as it's just an exact copy of the portable, and hasn't been compiled for puppy. I'm a complete novice at compiling, i've tried at various things but have had no success so far. But maybe i'll have a go at amule this weekend and see if i can come up with something.

thanks for trying. I'm happy doing the cut and paste approach. no worries.
1. Regards to firefox beta 4* version you are using, does it support moonlight? if it does I can switch to that version and may be it will work.
2. in the amule settings do i have to make any changes? eg : in the bind address field what should be there?
thanks.

Not sure about moonlight, can't find it in the plugins manager,... your firefox should work.... you could maybe try to reinstall it. make a backup of your bookmarks first though
i don't really know about the address binding, it's nothing to do with associating ed2k links though.
