USB dial-up modem works in Wary 102 and Puppy 431

#1 Post by Johannes »

I ordered this dial up modem, a USRobotics USB5637.

It comes with skimpy information for Linux. It says that it will work on kernel 2.4.20 and higher, and that the Linux distro must contain driver CDC ACM, and has Plug and Play enabled.

When I installed it I was using a Puppy that I had used before on a different modem. I looked in the blacklisted drivers and CDC ACM was in there. I moved it out, and with a little fiddling it worked.

I have a USB mouse and it also worked.

This modem is very fast for a dial up modem.

Installed in Wary 102 and Puppy 431 in both my Dell and HP.

It used ttyACMO

I did have a Trend net external but gave it away, so cant test it.

The USR5637 is a serial-hardware modem, it needs no drivers for Linux .
It will work on any Linux operating system. I am pretty sure the Trend Micro is a winmodem.
