zachif,

Boot the live CD
Menu>system
run Grub4dos - bootloader config. Just select the defaults. That should make sure everything in the Grub4dos menu.lst is correct.
now, the partition size is 256MB, and I have tried it twice!
partition created using Gpart launched from the install wizard.
That may be a little too small partition size for a full install.

Definitely too small, the main sfs expands to a bit over 240M I think, then a small browser expands to at least 30M... that is not enough! 500M minimum I reckon should give some breathing space, though not much.

Beat me too it.....

For what it's worth, my Lucid 520 full install ,with a couple of browsers,VLC and a Nvidia driver is over 800 mb.....a larger partition is needed for a full install.

I had to know, so I did a full install of Lucid 5.2 with nothing added and no changes from initial boot.
Took 311MB of space.

Re: PUP5.2 taskbar

Thanks BigPup, BUT, still doesn't change anything in the LiveCD system. ...No matter what I do. If its not a bug, then, you or I are not implementing the change properly. Or this is the "new' implementation.

Can anyone tell me how to get PUP5.2 LiveCD running so that the taskbar ONLY shows what's running in the active Virtual Desktop instead of show all task in all desktops?
Thanks in advance
In live CD fbpanel configuration controls the taskbar.
menu>desktop>desktop settings>fbpanel configuration>taskbar tab
show all desks
Select false
select main tab
select OK
This setting should stop showing all tasks in all desktops.
I've been saying something wrong with tasks on taskbar in EVERY virtual desktop for about a month or so. How do I report this as a bug?

Thanks in advance.

weird - when installing into the 256MB partition, I never got any error message or any other sign it is too small...

will give it another try, with a 512MB or a 1GB partition.

Re: GimPhoto and Gimp

I installed GimPhoto 2.4.3 from a .pet that I had on file, and was pleased to see that it seemed to work well, but wanted to use the full Gimp. So, went to PPM, clicked on the listing in 'Installed Packages' and went through the routine to uninstall.
But it didn't.
I've now grabbed the full Gimp .sfs from Quickpet sfs get, and that has installed, or so it seems, but won't load up.
I often use Gimp and it works well.
I tested GimPphoto with a prehistoric lupu-lucid (six months old). The system crashed...
Gimp and (or) GimpPhoto no longer working. So I was forced to delete the pupsave to put again a previous saved pupsave.bak (only with Gimp).
Currently (lucid 5.2) I use Gimp-full-2.6.10-lucid.sfs very often for photo retouching. It is stable.
Thanks Tasgarth. You gave me the idea to delete all the gimp files, so I used pfind to locate them and the deleted them. Then I placed the .sfs in the right spot to load, and when I rebooted again it was working.

I still have some troubles with green lines appearing on the work space when I use a brush or the eraser, which is incredibly annoying, but that is not the fault of 5.2. I've had this problem before.

I do not have this problem if I understand. The easiest way is to do a screenshot with details. If it can help.

PPM disappeared

#84 Post by Bert »

How to get rid of the PPM

I had ticked the Lucid repo and three Buntu repos in the sources. Wanted to add the Quirky repo. That brought the repos to the maximum 5 allowed.
PPM didn't display the Quirky repo after restarting it, so I changed the repos to only Quirky and restarted PPM.

Never saw PPM again :(
When I click it, there's the yellow/orange bar announcing it (something like "please wait, updating..".) for a split second and then nothing.

Can this be reproduced?
I must add I also added Zigbert's pkg_chooser.sh to PPM (petget). But that's just an elegant new UI, without influence on PPM's code I would think?

Any ideas?

Live CD should be using Openbox and fbpanel by default.
It works for me.
The only other thing may be you need a save file for setting changes to work.
Changes in fbpanel configuration will not happen unless you go to the main tab and select OK.

Never understood why people are so hesitant to give Puppy Linux some room to grow when installing. There are cache areas that change size, temp areas that change size, if you download a program it is compressed and expands to maybe 3 or 4 times before installing, programs need room to work.
For a full install I never use less than 1GB, but that is probably too small if you like to install large program packages. Download the full version of Open Office and see how much room that takes.

I must add I also added Zigbert's pkg_chooser.sh to PPM (petget).
Thanks for reminding me ;-)

Re: FULL install cannot boot

#88 Post by zachif »

OK - installed to a 512MB partition, and it is working!!
Thanks everyone for their help.

I guess my only suggestion for next release would be:
Either do not let install into a partition too small, or give error message when you fail. Everything seemed to be fine until trying to reboot.

zachif wrote:I booted from the live CD, and ran the install wizard.
FULL install on SDA3 (Win7 on SDA1 and SDA2).
wizard completed successfully, identified Win 7, created the config for GRUB4DOS and everything seemed to be ok, until trying to boot... :(
Win 7 still boots OK, when selecting it from the grub4dos menu.
When trying to boot puppy, I get:

Booting Lucid Puppy 520 (sda3/boot)

setting root to (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 ro

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

now, the partition size is 256MB, and I have tried it twice!
partition created using Gpart launched from the install wizard.
partition was created as the default ext2.

can anyone help?!

Thanks!

I've reported it here
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59252

Same issue regardless of which version of Gimp is used. This isn't relevant to 5.2 specifically, so I won't clog up this forum with it.

Tasgarth, if you have any idea what might be causing this, and how it could be resolved, I'd be very pleased.

Keyboard and locale problem

#93 Post by gsig1185 »

In puppy 4.3 I could choose both Icelandic Keyboard and country settings but in Lucid puppy 5.1 the keyboard was no longer available and in 5.2 neither is available. The keyboard setting is easy to fix with the setxkbmap command but I cannot fix the country settings.

Hi gsig1185,

When you choose menu >> setup >> setup puppy >> personalize settings,
you will find "more" at the bottom of the country settings list. Choose that, click 'OK' and a scroll-down list will open, where you'll be able to select is_IS.

Hope that is what you where looking for..
