Hi Shino.
Good you are back.Tried "wary-511-01q-k2.6.32.28-small.iso".
I could set my pppoe connection only if had my cable unplugged.
If the cable is in when i do it shows "connected",but no internet.
So first before Puppy to boot i unplug the cable then set up pppoe then the cable back in.The same like with LUPQ-511 at the beginning.
Puppy connects.No problem.
Greetings.

Is it the same between Wary-511-01q, Wary-511(original), Lupq-511 and Lupu-515?

With LUPQ-511 everything is O.K.I don't change anything.
Lupu-515 only replace "pppoe-connect" with your from LUPQ-511.
Wary-511(original) never used.

I am checking the code up in wary-511-01q and LUPQ-511. I cannot find any difference between them at this point of time...

If this can be in help in all "Quickset Wary" version i only had to replace "pppoe-connect" with LUPQ's one.
It's not so important i can handle it

Bonjour shinobar !
Good to read from you !
Thanksssss! to you and all japanese contributors !
/usr/share/doc/home.htm seems still being the (...«good old» ) lupq-511 one...isn't ? not that worrying!
Seems working like a charm.

Hi Shinobar! Naena want a Puppy that can use Sinhala language fonts using the keyboard in a way that maybe other Asian languages uses it you write in words that mimik the way it sounds but out on screen comes the very sign the language have. She talks about it here.

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=66796

'Sinhala-enabled' my Puppy. Sinhala is an Indic language that is a bit more complicated than the other Indics because it has multiple orthographies.

There are two ways Sinhala could be written on the computer:
1. Using a smartfont that automatically makes all the complex letters as you type phonetically using the Latin character set (US-International keyboard)
2. Using the characters in the Sinhala code page and the special Sinhala keyboard.

These are the enhancements I made:
Added the necessary keyboard variants to 'us' and 'lk' keyboard layouts
and added Sinhala fonts. These required updating of 'xorg.conf' and 'base.lst' files.

Please see this page:
http://www.ahangama.com/puppy/index.htm

[Now I want to make a CD iso file that has these changes.
Does your Wary 5 multilanguage already have that feature? Maybe the language on terms and menu but not the font for their language?

I only guess I told her to share her knowledge with you or learn from you how to get a puppy that can be fully localized hope you get interested. Just a friendly suggestion. You decide. :)

"GLXGEARS missing" Problem measuring Video performance

@Shinobar, this distro, Quickset Wary-5.1.1-01q, is looking very good. Amazingly quick in scanning folders. Thought you want to see that the following also is working wonderfully.

Code: Select all

# hostname
Shino511m-test
# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost Shino511m-test
192.168.1.1 pc2
192.168.1.2 pc3
192.168.1.3 pc4
Problems:
When system starts with Personalize Settings, I select XVESA. I follow prompted paths until I'm back to desktop and Personal Settings where I exit, completed.

Next, Opening a Terminal and selecting GLXGEARS, I get the following error message:

Code: Select all

# glxgears
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display 0:0.
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual
I believe BarryK had mentioned to me that glxgears is available when arriving at desktop for all recent WARY products. This works with Barry's WARY511.

Another issue is when attempting copy by highlighting and going to the target window to click "middle mouse button" to paste contents. This is not working either on this laptop. Is there more information that I can give that would help diagnosing this dilemma, also?

Code: Select all

Hope this helps

You need to load lang_pack_all first that contains special font. In general, the countrywizard only shows languages the font set can display.

As for sinhala, the current lang_pack_all does not have good support. You need to select English and en_IN.UTF-8.
You can read sinhala and can input sinhala with SCIM input method.

Right. Use XVesa only when all Xorg drivers fail.

Quickset Wary 511-01q as the final release

by shinobar
ANNOUNCE:
Japanese team has decided to release the wary-511-01j-k2.6.32.28-small.iso as the official Japanese edition.
At the same time, I announce the Quickset Wary 511-01q as the final release.
The wary 511-01m is the same release with lang_pack's in the iso.

Note that the rodin's last I18n scripts is not contained, the seamonkey version is old 2.0.11, and it crashes by insert-key.
They shall be fixed with additional PET or next release, maybe wary-512q(?).

Thanks to all the developers, contributers and testers.

small update to Russian langpack

Posted: Mon 18 Apr 2011, 18:59
by rodin.s
I understand it's final release and no major changes will be made now but I have some update to the langpack. I've included new i18n-scripts into pet but it's not for langpack. Some mo-files changed, also some menu entries translated, updated locales for pmusic and pschedule. Also Russian people use us,ru keyboard layouts so I've made script (from xkb scripts) to automatically setup keyboard layouts and switch method while installing package (have put it in pinstall.sh). Also included fbxkb to show current layout (with three flags: ru, ua, us). Restart of X is needed after the package is installed.
Also I noticed that there's no Simple Network Setup (/usr/sbin/sns) in the system. Called from connectwizard.

Video troubles using Shinobar WARY and nVidia

Posted: Tue 19 Apr 2011, 16:56
by gcmartin
Hi Shinoaar
Your LiveCD system works smoothly for the most part. But, there is a single area that I reported (subtlely) before you went final.

Problem Summary: When your WARY version is in XVESA mode, glxgears does NOT run. This is a departure from WARY and has negative side-effect where a glxgears measurement of video performance CANNOT BE TAKEN.

Your Final WARY version: When the system is configured with the nVidia driver, and the PPM directions are followed, the system results with XVESA driver showing and a system measurement cannot be taken. Further, when using xorgwizard, selecting choose, picking nVidia, and following prompts back to desktop,, the system is reported XVESA. If I rerun sorgwizard and select the older nv, it will use the nv driver (as it should) This means that the system is "registering" the nv driver and I can get a measurement to understand its performance. Reports of this are below. for your review.

Please, PLEASE review your decision to not allow glxgears measurement whenever a driver install causes XVESA to be used. Further, it is everyone's best interest to be able to run a video measurement tool (glxgears or etc.) no matter which mode or which driver is employed so that we understand whether there is measurement data to show positive or negative video behavior as a resultantly.

My findings below is some evidence you can used to repeat what was done. And, you can PM me if you want more data or tests to assist you.

When looking thru the reports, start with the "Baseliine" as it is the very 1st system measurement before any other video changes were attempted upon reaching WARY desktop at "Personalize Settings". Also PPM list is enclosed to allow you to see system packs added.

Very good distro, though and I encourage all to use.

Hope this helps.

SAMBA in Shino WARY

For some unknown reason, the current versions of SAMBA have disappeared from PPM.

Instead, the older, less secure and less stable version is showing up. Are you aware of this? Can you explain what happened?

See PPM list below in alphabetic order..

SAMBA question on PPM

Posted: Wed 20 Apr 2011, 05:39
by gcmartin
Thanks @Shinobar for responding.
You MAY want to announce your latest SAMBA offering along side your 3.5.6 package that you produced here. This would make it easy for anyone to find your latest SAMBA packaging within your thread, there..

Question:
My original question is about PPM in the preceeding post.

I'm trying to understand how PPM actually works.
  • Who controls what we see in any Puppy PPM?
  • Why did SAMBA change in the PPM from version 3.5.6 in PPM to older, less stable version 3.4.2? (I had used PPM in WARY to install 3.5.6 early last week; so something/someone changed PPM contents)
  • How do you or anyone get necessary stuff there for community use?
Would anyone explain, please.

Thanks in advance, for any help anyone can provide on understanding PPM and how things are made available to be used..

P.S. It appears that Version 3.5.8 is not updating the Menu as the installation message indicates.

Live media save session problem

I am having a save session Live media save session problem, It happens on all of my latest Live CD/DVDs whenever I save the session (Save to CD) on reboot.

I see there is a folder here with the files found in the ISO.

Would someone share with me what tool Shinobar used to go from this folder to a bootable CD? Please include the parms as well. I am trying to pin-point the issue and need to use the exact parms/steps used to create the ISO

Thanks in advance.
