i18n scripts

Posted: Thu 06 Jan 2011, 04:32
by shinobar
The seven_in_one is i18n scripts for wary-500(, but also may work on any Puppy-4.x/5.x).
It contains 7 domains: bootflash, dotpup, pup_event, puppyinstaller, usr_sbin, welcome, xorgwizard
It also contains gxmessage-gtkdialog-splash for utf-8 support.
The wary_po_files is the correction of .po files available now.
The wary_po_files contains .po files for the seven_in_one plus 6 more: countrywizard, ffconvert, frugalinstaller, grub4dosconfig, jwm, puppy-desktop

They are based on the ones by L18L and rodin.s and i shinobar merged and midified.
Note that the text domain is changed form that of rodin.s, so the 'ru.po' files may need to restructure.
Other .po files should also be refined because some may be outdated.
Another note: the jwm in wary does not currently support i18n.

DOWNLOWDS:
  • seven_in_one-20110106.tar.gz
  • wary_po_files-20110106.tar.gz
All available here.

EDIT: /usr/bin/xmessage was missing. Remove the link /usr/bin/xmessage, and make a new link to gxmessage at /usr/bin/xmessage.

Here is german updated po and mo for ppm.

for all languages:
- I have made a new package_descr.pot from all Packages. You can translate and use it. It will show your translation of Package Description.

- there is no 'trim the fat' for NLS packages !
Please apply the small change posted already in
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 777#464777
Nobody wants all languages or do you?

Have fun

review wary-500j02.iso

I'm continuing to use wary500j02.iso

Two more observations:

1) When I boot up (pfix=ram) and chose the Japanese keyboard layout
I have no black screen problem as previous mentioned.

2) I wasn't able to get my Wacom Bamboo tablet to work.
I tried several drivers that are available in the forum but no success.
When I looked in /dev I didn't see a file named 'Event5' which
other Puppies use to connect my wacom tablet to the operating system.

I assume that you are using a different method to connect USB devices
to the operating system.

  • Minor updated pupsaveconfig
  • Offers xorgwizard at the boot with 'pfix=nox'

xorgwizard with 'pfix=nox' boot option.

The wary-500j03 offers xorgwizard at the boot with 'pfix=nox' option.
If you choose 'Advance Menu' > 'Safe mode' at the live CD boot menu, the Wary boots with 'pfix=nox' option.
You will be asked the keyboard kayout, then be offered 'xorgwizard'.

This sequence is useful for some PC need to choose graphic driver at boot.

PPM

by L18L
screenshot shows that the translated package_descr is shown only when NLS is ticked. You can tick and untick and the change happens.
But nobody will tick NLS by default (I did not).
After long research I found the simple solution:

filterpkgs.sh 31 ff.

Code: Select all

#...main gui will read /tmp/filterpkgs.results.post
# i18n begin
LANG=$LANG_USER	# 20aug10 shinobar # 2jan10 skip if LANG=C
#[ "${LANG:0:2}" != "en" -a "$LANG" != "C" ] && . $APPDIR/i18n "/tmp/filterpkgs.results"
[ "${LANG:0:2}" != "en" -a "$LANG" != "C" ] && . $APPDIR/i18n "/tmp/filterpkgs.results.post" # bugfix by L18L
# i18n end
The nice changing of the description from translated to untranslated when ticking or unticking does not happen anymore.

I know, the translation of package description is not very important but because the translation of ppm is my baby I feal responsible to get it running completly!

wary-500j03.iso review

by don570
I tried wary-500j03.iso
Here's my observations.

1) I booted (pfix=ram) and chose English . I clicked 'ok'.
Then I chose US English variant . I get a warning message that stays
on the screen about 5 seconds then the screen turns completely black.
I click and everything proceeds normally.

2) If I choose (at bootup) the 'xorg' option (by ticking) then I am told
to type 'xorgwizard' in the console. Everything proceeds well if I do
this.
____________________________________________________________

Suggestion: Your warning message shouldn't say that the screen will
'flash'. The word 'flash' means a burst of light. Instead the screen
turns black.

Also the 'ok' button at the bottom of the warning message doesn't seem
to do anything so it's just causing confusion.

i18n pupdial scripts and .pot file

wary-500j04

Posted: Sun 09 Jan 2011, 14:30
by shinobar
UPDATE: wary-500j04.iso

See also CHANGES(j05)
IMPORTANT CHANGE
The intrd.gz is modified from the original.
# 9jan11 shinobar: search files including symlinks, allow 'pmedia=cd' on other drives for UNetBootin
# 9jan11 shinobar: mount main and driver sfs last (gyro), PUPMODE=6/12 for 'pmedia=usbhd'
EDIT: mounting the main sfs is reverted to the upper layer for the compatibility with the original(j05)
  1. The main sfs is mounted at the lowest layer.
It means the additional sfs can override the files contained in the main.
It is similar as PET, but note that the additional sfs cannot override PET's.
This order differs from the original, but the same as LupQ and Japanese versions 4.3.1 and later.
  2. The wary-500j04 supports UNetBootin.
Whereas the original wary-500 and wary-500j03 and olderfails UNetBootin install(needs to manually modify syslinux, cfg).
  3. The wary-500j04 accept 'pmedia=usbhd' boot option.
The original wary and most of Puppies always run as if from usbflash for all the USB devices no matter we give the 'pmedia=usbhd' boot option.
wary-500j04 runs under 'PUPMODE=12' if 'pmedia=usbhd' boot option is given. It makes faster shutdown for the install on USB-HDD.
You are expected to test various install and feed back to this topic.

Simple Network Wizard

Posted: Sun 09 Jan 2011, 14:49
by shinobar
The Simple Network Wizard(SNS) is removed in wary-500j04.
The reason is simply it does not work for me.

SNS does not support fixed IP, it may be one of the reason it is called 'simple'.
For the reason, the SNS assumes it is used with the help of the Network Wizard.

This situation makes the things complicated.
The original wary offers SNS first. If i try it and suppose got success, then it asks to set it as the default connecting tool. Its not so bad.
If i failed with the SNS, it offers next try with other tool. I try Network Wizard and suppose got success, it asks again to set it as the default connecting tool.
Long journey!

TO DO

TO DO:
  • Slim down the applications
  • Improve the switching Xvesa to Xorg (Now requires typing as don570 reported)
