Variations of the first boot

#5 Post by L18L »

Hi shinobar,
having started from wary-500j02.iso I had to notice a strange behavior of xvesa: everything was staying in japanese.
But switching to xorg vesa everything was as expected: osmo calender in german language and no need for legacy button in pupsaveconfig..
So I am voting for variant 2:
Go streat to graphic with Xorg vesa(not Xvesa) 800x600x16
e312bbcd4a7abdf4700985a8d8ed77e6 wary-500j02-xorgvesa.iso
Happy New Year

trying to make russian langpack

#6 Post by rodin.s »

I am trying to make Russian langpack for Wary using your LupuQ ideas. Trying translate scripts using gettext. Here's what I got so far.
One package uses built in i18n of Puppy and is kind of universal. It doesn't replace any binaries or scripts of the original.
Another one is my scripts translated with gettext. I am also using some from LupuQ.

Wow, очень хорошо!
We should implement your gettext'ed scripts in the wary.
It must be a big contribution for all papians in the world :D

Hi, L18L. Thanks to your collaboration with us.

I cannot reproduce your problem.
I can switch the language and the desktop and the menus are switched after restarting X, no matter Xvesa or Xorg...

As for the Xorg at the first desktop, changing the screen resolution on the fly with Xorg vesa driver is limited. We need to run the xorgwizard if we prefer larger resolution than 800x600. Isn't it wired?

Owners of some directories

#9 Post by shinobar »

Uoops. Wrong owners for some directory in wary-500j02.
/root/sopt/ should be ownd by user.group 'spot.spot'
/root/Web-Server/ should be owned by the user.group 'webuser.webgroup'

PPLOG/DidWiki doesn't work on wary-500j02 unless these correction.

Japanese folder names

#12 Post by don570 »

I tried wary-500j02.iso and I was mostly pleased by results.
I was able to create folders with Japanese names and store
files with Japanese names. No problems. ....but
I noticed the following while using English keyboard layout.

I didn't have this problem while using the Japanese keyboard layout.

By the way this occurred in all programs, not just mtpaint.
There was no problem saving the file to disk.

Thanks don for the test.
It is not the problem of keyboard layout but the locale.
To display the japanese on the title bar requires Japanese locale, ja_JP.UTF-8, no matter the keyboard layout.
It may be the specification of glib or gtk.

BTW:
I am refining the i18n scripts given by rodin.s. I will upload next version implemented those including pot files in couple of days.

upgrade to mtpaintsnapshot 12

#14 Post by don570 »

I suggest that you upgrade to mtpaintsnapshot 1.2
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-cf582c86.html

It saves to a default folder.

I was tinkering with the code and I realized that it would be easy to
make a bilingual version of this app (both English and Japanese)
simply by adding Japanese words to the labels. Here's a picture to
show what it would be like. (I don't know any Japanese)

Image

It would take you a couple of seconds to do this work.

wary right click package

#15 Post by don570 »

I prepared a Wary Right click package
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-af204808.html

It makes Wary a lot more convenient .

Note to Shinobar: Why not make a Japanese version of this
right click package?
It wouldn't take long to do and make it available to the Japanese
public using your website.

______________________________________________

If you intend to make this a truly bilingual distribution,
I think you'll need a better opening screen to greet
English users. The most friendly way would be
to offer two buttons, one labeled 'Japanese' and the other 'English'.
Click on 'English' and the regular 'FirstRun' app would run.

i18n scripts

#16 Post by shinobar »

The seven_in_one is i18n scripts for wary-500(, but also may work on any Puppy-4.x/5.x).
It contains 7 domains: bootflash, dotpup, pup_event, puppyinstaller, usr_sbin, welcome, xorgwizard
It also contains gxmessage-gtkdialog-splash for utf-8 support.
The wary_po_files is the correction of .po files available now.
The wary_po_files contains .po files for the seven_in_one plus 6 more: countrywizard, ffconvert, frugalinstaller, grub4dosconfig, jwm, puppy-desktop

They are based on the ones by L18L and rodin.s and i shinobar merged and midified.
Note that the text domain is changed form that of rodin.s, so the 'ru.po' files may need to restructure.
Other .po files should also be refined because some may be outdated.
Another note: the jwm in wary does not currently support i18n.

DOWNLOWDS:
  • seven_in_one-20110106.tar.gz
  • wary_po_files-20110106.tar.gz
All available here.

EDIT: /usr/bin/xmessage was missing. Remove the link /usr/bin/xmessage, and make a new link to gxmessage at /usr/bin/xmessage.

#18 Post by L18L »

Here is german updated po and mo for ppm.

for all languages:
- I have made a new package_descr.pot from all Packages. You can translate and use it. It will show your translation of Package Description.

- there is no 'trim the fat' for NLS packages !
Please apply the small change posted already in
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 777#464777
Nobody wants all languages or do you?

Have fun

review wary-500j02.iso

#19 Post by don570 »

I'm continuing to use wary500j02.iso

Two more observations:

1) When I boot up (pfix=ram) and chose the Japanese keyboard layout
I have no black screen problem as previous mentioned.

2) I wasn't able to get my Wacom Bamboo tablet to work.
I tried several drivers that are available in the forum but no success.
When I looked in /dev I didn't see a file named 'Event5' which
other Puppies use to connect my wacom tablet to the operating system.

I assume that you are using a different method to connect USB devices
to the operating system.
