Available from http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/opt/

It has pre-build kernel modules for Puppy-4.3.1, Lucid, Precise-5.7.1, and Slacko-5.7.
For other kernels, you need devx and kernel source packages to build the kernel modules.
Hi,

Question: What's the best puppy for virtualbox?

After trying unsuccessfully to install devx on Tahrpup, just want to pick the best puppy for vbox.

thx

To insall devx on tarpup, I presume it is just a matter of downloading the .sfs file, right clicking on it and selecting "load sfs". At least this is how it is done on other puppy distributions.

on another puppylinux forum they say that it can be found here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... hr_6.0.sfs
Try to match the version of devx with your version of tahrpup

As for which is the best puppy for a virtualbox, I'm tempted to ask which is the best puppy. I tend to prefer distros that are the most up to date. I haven't tried tahrpup but it seems to be maintained more recently than the version I'm using which is "precise". So therefore if I was to start afresh for a 32 bit system I'd give tahrpup a try.

However, an older version of puppy may be more light weight and perhaps the goal of your virtualbox is to minimize ram use, as ram is precious.

For 64 bit systems, I'm currently using fatdog64 but want to try other versions as well. I recently built an iso for fatdog64 with virtualbox guest services installed (see my other thread).

If you are looking for prebuilt images a Google search reveals some:
http://virtualboxes.org/images/puppy-linux/

or if you tell us what system you want to host it in maybe I or someone else can build one for you.

#201 Post by rufwoof »

Tahr 6.0.5 32 bit pae with a non standard kernel (emsee 4.3.2 32) to get Virtual Box installed I loaded the SFS for the kernel 4.3.2 sources, loaded the devx sfs for Tahr 6.0.5, and then downloded and installed the 32-bit: virtualbox-4.2.12-x86_src.install.pet available under the

This link might be a bit hidden in the first post. Scroll down to see the differences. Unfortunately, nothing for me with Quirky Unicorn (Barry Version) and installing the kernel directions are a bit confusing....

Virtualbox for slacko 6.3

#206 Post by Fulle »

Hello,

First thanks for all people that contribute to Puppy Linux community. I'm a normal user who don't know much about linux but I like to try new things so I found Slacko 5.7 some years ago and started to use it in an old computer. Now I'm using slacko 6.3, pretty good puppy, but I need to use virtualbox but I can't find a version that works in kernel 3.14.55 (I think) that slacko 6.3 use. If someone could make a .pet or .sfs I would apreciate it.

Thanks again for your hard work and I hope that I don't have to install an stupid windows xp for somethings that I need to do in Windows (wine doesn't work T_T).

I finally got the latest Virtualbox working in Slacko 6.3.0. It was actually pretty easy and all it involved was downloading a few files. This is for 32-bit version-latest Virtualbox http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... ux_x86.run Virtualbox Guest Additions(optional but highly recommended) http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 5.1.10.iso devx http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... _6.3.0.sfs kernel sources http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... _noPAE.sfs . You need to first install the devx and kernel sources and then Virtualbox(just click to install and follow on-screen prompts if any).

You are a genius! Thx! I had tried a few times to get VirtualBox working in my puppy derivative (LxPup 16.07) to no avail :-( I had lost almost every hope to make it happen some time ago 'til I found your post and your instructions worked great!

Thanks again! :D

Virtualbox 4.2.4 doesn't compile on Fatdog 720 Kernel 4.14.6.
Same for 5.2.4.

Any way out?

I've driven myself up a wall trying to get VirtualBox running on XenialPup. I'm sure its something dumb on my part but I wonder if someone had built an sfs version yet? Help....
