Take a look at radky's great little applications. As indicated above, they work fine with Lucid-5.2 and provide menu-like access to most Puppy programs. One great feature is that they work together, for example if you open PupShutdown, then all of the other programs may be accessed from there. PupApps, PupControl, and PupSnap have just been updated to version 1.2.

I have not used them my self yet but it looks like ratky has made a great suite of applications there.

Wold love to see something like this come as standard in puppy - just have those 4 apps on the desktop and get rid of the individual application icon clutter.

Actually, you just need to place PupShutdown on your desktop, it links to the other little applications via the Control Panel Button you see on my desktop. Also, I really like 01micko's wbar which also helps make a neat desktop.

You can give Pupdial a try. Make sure your modem is recognised (from within Pupdial, don't worry if there are no icons on the desktop), try having it plugged at boot and hot plugging. If nothing try the "choose" button to probe for the modem. Make sure to fill out the ISP phone number (usually *99#), leave dummy values in for Username and Password, fill out your APN correctly, tick "Stupid Mode" and you're away.

Thank you, it worked in the Lupu 5.2 live-cd, but only if the modem was attached during boot-up. Mounting the modem after boot-up doesn't work with either pupdial or GPRS.

My dpup484beta4-2.6.30.5 finds the modem when I tell it to use ttyUSB2 with GPRS, hot plugged or not, but never with pupdial, where it insists on using ttyUSB0 and cannot find the modem.

I usually run Debian on my linuxboxes, but running a Puppy off a live-cd is becoming the easy way to check on forums or read email, and I tend to use it more and more frequently.
A live-cd/dvd Puppy behind a firewall, with Firefox in private mode running yauba (even runs without cookies), may also be the safest and most anonymous way to use the internet.

Tallboy.

IMHO everyone should take a look at Puppy Studio 3.2. Wow.

Also, Why am I just now seeing bigpup and radky's launchers and control panels? Wink There are some great things happening in Puppy.

Stu90,
Those GUI's look "WOW". Any chance of making a pet to add changes to Lucid 5.2?

Updated version 4.

Hi Bigpup,

Install 01micko's Desksetup-0.4.pet (this should be a new default puppy app) first if you want the updated gui for that.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=62750&start=420

I also included Zigbets updated PPM
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=38608&start=435

Extract all gui.tar.gz to /root then read the read.me file in /root/gui directory.
Run backup Script first
Then run Install script.
updated for 01micko's Desksetup-0.4
version 4: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3009188/gui.tar.gz

cheers.

PostPosted: Wed 19 Jan 2011, 13:08    Post subject: Setting up LAMP using ubuntu repo
Subject description: how to do it correctly?

Hi,

I don't know where's the best place to ask this...

I'd added the ubuntu main and universe repo to the PPM and tried installing, for a start, Apache2 and MySQL.

Seems to be missing some .so files.

Anyone tried setting up LAMP on lupu yet?

Would appreciate your help to share the solution.

Thanz!

You are doing a good job of keeping me informed. Thanks.

I am trying to make sure I understand what needs to go to PPM.

Radky's whole suite could go all at once. That is Pupapps, Pupcontrol, and Pupshutdown, am I right?

And Stu90 has done some facelifts. The thing is, how to package those so that they make good sense to users.

Because of the pinstall files I am going to ask radky to make a pet package that includes PupApps, Pupcontrol, and PupShutdown. (also Pupsnap if you could.

I am thinking that if no one objects, I will put radky's programs, stu90's facelifts, and 01micko's Desktop setter all in one package--and call it Makeover or something Wink I will post it on LupuNews in addition to PPM--I think a lot of people will like it.

I would use all three Ubuntu repos. Then click Examine Dependencies, after which you will have an opportunity to Download the packages. If there are libraries missing, one easy way is to go to packages.ubuntu.com and search for them--then download.

Some Ubuntu packages are easy--but some are difficult and frustrating. It sometimes happens that a package you get somewhere else will install easier than the Ubuntu package--so you might want to search the forum--if you find a good one please let me know and I can put it in the Puppy Package Manager.

This looks promising.

Nice "radkyfication" Laughing (I'm sure he's flattered Wink )

An issue with pupradio, did you see the buttons at the bottom were chopped off?

Here's an alternate gui which will handle mods better but may not fit tiny screens so well. (attached)

Cheers

playdayz,

Please check your PM as time permits. You should have a link to a PupCombo PET which contains PupApps-1.2, PupControl-1.3, PupShutdown-1.5 and PupSnap-1.2, but PupClockset-1.2 is not included. The PupControl utility has been updated to support 01micko's Desktop Setup utility.

Thanks for including my little apps, and yes 01micko, I find stu90's GUI "radkyfication" most interesting. Smile

Regards
