The newer alsawizard is definitely buggy. There are similar reports in the spup thread.
Yes, We had established that and we reverted in 245 or 246. However, in experimenting today I accidentally left the new one in the iso I built.

I cannot decide whether to rush out lupu-517 like in an hour, or to hold my breath until I turn blue!

I am thinking it is a good beta, except for that.

PLEASE do not shoot yourself in the head - we need you and would be lost without you

Congrats new thread!
playdayz wrote:Puppy Package Manager no longer unsets localization when a pet is installed. Hopefully this will result in more stability in localization..
Great, and confirmed :D
playdayz wrote:The yaf-splash call in save2flash has been modified, to avoid localization problems..
Also comfirmed.
BTW,

Code: Select all

yaf-splash -font "8x16" -text "日本語"
shows the UTF-8 characters correctly, while '/usr/X11R7/bin/yaf-splash -font "8x16" -text "日本語"' doesn't.
It's nice but i am puzzled...

PLEASE do not shoot yourself in the head
That's a colloquial saying where I live, but I was worried to say it on the forum. Never any worries :D :D :D

I changed it to more describe my level of maturity.

Which order SHOULD PETs/SFSs be added to Puppy?

#23 Post by gcmartin »

Puppy packages are available from either/both of two(2) spots on the Puppy desktop: "install" icon AND from "quickpet" icon.

Which should I use as a first?
Thanks in advance

@playdayz
P.S. If you shoot yourself, can I have your computer before the revenuers get it?
And, if you want a recommendation on what kind of shot to use (don't use bird shot), try Tennessee Moon. It much better than Kentucky Gentleman in my opinion. Holiday Spirits... you know.

The usual manual frugal install of 516 on the old P3 test box...everything working on initial boot.... including sound. everything looks good.
Also in the process of upgrading Lupu 515 w/ Trinity /kde to 516......

Just tried installing a new Frugal of Lupu 516 on the main FAT32 partition on the K6. Still can't create a working lupusave. This is a serious problem. Will report back tomorrow.
Zhaan - AMD K6 2 500, 512MB RAM, ATI Rage 128 VR. Full install Wary 5.5 HardInfo Report
Merlin - Core i5-4590, 8GB RAM, Radeon R9 270X. Slacko 5.7.0

Updated a frugal and a full installation of lupu-515. New installation with KDE trinity. All three working good, even Gnome-mplayer which has given me problems since luci-243.

Kudos and Merry Christmas,
Jim

In 5.15 there was a button in Quickpet to get the Devx. Now it is no longer there.

Not that I need it, just wondering..

Whichever you prefer, of course ;-)

Quickpet will now show you if more than one version is available. PPM has *all* the pets, but Quickpet has the one-click SFS's. Tough choice.

Lupu-516 Beta 2 released DEC 22

#31 Post by Billtoo »

The wired network, sound, and screen resolution all good on first boot.
I did a frugal install of 516 and used grub4dos.

I got the devx the new way and already had the kernel sources sfs on
the hard disk along with the newest nvidia driver for my card.
I installed the nvidia driver.

I think it's good that the files that are needed to install the latest nvidia
or ati drivers are easily available to the user if they want to use them.

I changed my desktop a bit :)

Looks like a nice wide button labeled GCC on your copy.

Test Lupu516.

CD-Live : it autobooted fine but had the wrong Time...
Reboot ... pupsave (ext3) same thing. So I used Psinc Time.
sound is good (tray-icon of volume: OK )
Gimp: OK
Video is good. Perhaps glxgears is slower (-10% ). Nvidia 260.19.12
Thanks.

Yes, I know, because it was there in 5.15. The funny thing is I sent a screenprint of it, to someone who was missing it in 5.15

Lobster proofing Bert

Install Puppy any way you like and you will get the button, it won't show when running pfix=ram (PUPMODE=5  )

It will disappear once you have installed the devx too,,
