Don't know if you guys have ever seen this before http://spi.dod.mil/lipose.htm
Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) creates a secure end node from trusted media on almost any Intel-based computer (PC or Mac). LPS boots a thin Linux operating system from a CD or USB flash stick without mounting a local hard drive. Administrator privileges are not required; nothing is installed. The ATSPI Technology Office created the LPS family to address particular use cases. LPS-Public is a safer, general-purpose solution for using web-based applications. The accredited LPS-Remote Access is only for accessing your organization's private network.

Cybercrime expert says use Puppy Linux for banking

Hi,
Couldn't resist a short trial

Notes:
- Sys - old gigabyte clone 512 ram, 900 mHz amd
PLUS
- Minimalist gui "lite", liked term w/help, has audio, and auto screen size, selected 800x600 256 as do several puppies, but essentially no method to change, uses about 220meg, relatively responsive, - sys runs xorg normally at 1024x768 24bit color
- has mtpaint, xpdf, leafpad, an encryption wizard
- a recent java directory (possible easy update for some)
- firefox 3.6 - think it may have some "about:config" mods
- Booted CD, only seems to list USB devices and will save to them transfer files ect.
- Found at least by menus, It has the ability to create a folder and then make it root
- Single minded purpose for security, banking

MINUS
- Could not find a left hand mouse change
- fearful of where it might contact - did not connect to internet
- kind of slow to boot, but good user feedback, "10 lines" for my sys, maybe looking for net?

Questions,
? can systems like this be amended by ISO editing,
seems to beg for a few selected "pets"
? Can some of the features like absolute ignoring any harddrive be adapted to a Puppy
? how about the "make this folder root" menu item
? could it be Puppized, is it worth the effort

Thanks,
jay

Only reason I like LPS over Puppy for security reasons would be the ability to use a smartcard reader in LPS (which is basically it's whole purpose). Firefox is modified some (not the actual code just the encryption security certs) in order to use the smartcard reader with it.

Well duh, had went and looked at the devices, but not having such forgot,

- That should be in PLUS category

And then the question is ? Can it be ripped for a Puppy use???

I like how it starts - like some of newer Pups totaly unattendeded,
and it probally has all the wifi drivers too,

The larger version has latest office compatablity too

with 2Gb ram and 1 16Gb usb total productivity is at hand

I think there are a lot of laptop users that would really like the ignoring the harddrive feature

- Those with the equipment, might consider taking it apart for a learning exercize
