Hello, this is my first time trying to install Puppy.
I successfully installed Puppy 5.1.1 (Full) to the internal hard drive of a Dell Dimension XPS R450. Since the BIOS seems to completely ignore the CD if any OS is detected on the hard drive, I put the hard drive in a hard drive enclosure and booted the Puppy 5.1.1 Live CD in another PC to reformat it from the original NTFS (from the Windoze '98 installation) to ext3. I then put it back in the original PC and booted from Live CD and installed using instructions I found on various websites. The only errors I received were:
Quote:

Warning: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/

and
Quote:
Dependencies may be missing in Puppy 511.
You will either have to uninstall the Puppy2 packages, or install the missing
dependencies -- the latter is easy: click the 'install' icon on the desktop
after Puppy is running and you have Internet access.

These are the most likely missing dependencies (if in doubt, install them all!)
PKG-TYPE MISSING DEPENDENCIES
GTK1: gtk+1 gdkxft gdk_pixbuf10 glib12
Tc1/Tk: tk tc1 tix uri tktable tablelist tile trf combobox gnocl img
Qt: qt
Xlib: imlib libxaw95_DEP4
Multimedia: speex libosip2 cdrdao sox
Misc.: libidn fig2dev pstoedit mtools

PLEASE WRITE THESE PACKAGE NAMES DOWN ON A PIECE OF PAPER RIGHT NOW.

Which after research appear to be ignorable messages.
But after installing Puppy and ignoring those two messages, the second of which never showed up again, I attempted to install Mozilla Seamonkey by clicking on "Browser" on the Desktop and selecting the Seamonkey logo image. I received an error message telling me that the install had failed, and another red error message in the center of my screen telling me something along the lines of: "Try again later, if the install has started it will continue". After this I tried installing Mozilla FireFox, then Chromium, both of which failed in roughly the same process. After this I decided to go to the Puppy Package Manager and attempt to install it from there. But as I entered the Puppy Package Manager, I discovered the right pane to be empty under all choices in the left pane. I figured this could be repaired by configuring the manager, so I did so and after the yellow terminal completed it still was empty, under every one of the choices in the Puppy Package Manager.
I would appreciate any help you may be able to give me, and thank you very much for your time.

Personally, I would say to try one of the test versions for Lucid Puppy 5.2. It's at Luci-243 at the time of me writing this. Get it here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=457202#457202

I had a similar problem with the early lucid puppies, but after using the test versions it seems to be fixed.

Also, you said NTFS from windows 98, but the problem there is that windows 98 didn't support NTFS. It used either fat32 or fat16.

Thanks a million! Working perfectly now, the Package Manager is full and I was able to install Seamonkey, plus the new icon style is snazzy!
