Article: why Macpup is a real treat

#1 Post by Flash »

Since this Derivatives section is about the only place in the forum where there's not a thread about Macpup:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/doityo ... ag=nl.e011
Takeaway: Jack Wallen details why Macpup, a Mac-like twist on Puppy Linux, might be a good choice for cash-strapped shops.

Awesome review - The macpup team should be proud of their work on this one.

Interesting things mentioned in the article...
There is one glaring issue with Macpup: The first time you run Macpup, the system will run only in RAM! You might find it sluggish.
Isn't that why we like Puppy? That's what makes it fast! I guess on low RAM pcs that could cause issues. Like the reviewer says though, a recommendation of 256mb RAM would keep things ticking along nicely. How many other similarly nice looking OSes could function in 256mb??!?
Puppy Linux is now based on Ubuntu.
Why do so many reviewers say this? I think I've only seen one get it right!

In some thread somewhere??? I tried to ask runtt21 about the
compatibility claim which is rather similar claim.

1. MacPup claim them can use ubuntu repo.
2. Lupu claim them can sometimes use ubuntu repo.

Assumption: Both of them can sometimes use Ubuntu repo
but sometimes both need that one manually complete the
dependencies for every package to work?

or

Assumtion. Lupu sometimes needs such while Macpup has tested
or have built in a script that automatically see to it that these
lacking gclib something do get downloaded to the right place
and therefore only MacPup is compatible while Lupu is not?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
