Good to see the newer than Lucid 5.2 Woof in action. Cool
The PPM in particular is much improved. I was trying to view a video (avi file I think it was) - did not work, so downloaded (I think it was the woof repository) VLC. That did not run.

OK the principle is sound . . .

Gosh a real slack report but I am back in Lucid. The only real way to get a feel is to use spup. So will try again for the next release.

Never forget the principles of the Church of Bob
through which Slack got its guiding philosophy Wink

VLC 1.1.5 from the Spup repository works fine.

I haven't even tried the Woof repo, but I've had real good success from the Slackware repos.

Maybe this approach? http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=56795

Thanks James C, Smile

I was trying to just click on an avi file - mplayer program loaded
but file did not play. Then downloaded VLC and tried to play a WTF or WMV (I think those are both MS formats) Wink and ran into trouble.

Anyways back in spup for further mayhem. The internet connection (ethernet) was not persistent and had to reset.

Improvements for me over Lucid 5.2 is the return of the chat button - yeah baby!
. . . and a browser - a major browser built in.
Also we have JWM which must admit I prefer for major right clicking from desktop. Is it faster too?
Also we get transmission as automatic (so to speak)

Prefer the two layer JWM menu system

is it worthwhile adding this control center?

OK better read this whole thread to see what has been happening. Already great support and congregation of supporters and developers

Hi all

01 micko check this out, the coding might not be up to your standards but it already has the pupppypin files created and enables you to save any custom icon setup. the desktop icon setup is stored in /root/choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin X has to be restarted after any changes to make the drive icons reappear

the drive icon settings are stored in /etc/eventmanager just change them with the desktop drive icons manager, and the changes are stored there

hope this helps

stripe

edited to add: having problems with the save custom icons as it saves images of the drive icons as well and tries to load them when installed, so could get false drives unrtil x is restarted. if wmreboot is the terminal reboot command what is the restartX ? so I can get X to auto restart.

Very worthwhile, radky has written several nice little applications, PupControl, PupShutdown, PupApps, PupClock, and PupSnap. They work well together, provide menu-like access to most Puppy programs, and work fine on spup, and others 4.3 and higher. They help you take control and reduce desktop clutter.

http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/ATI_fglrx-10-10-k2.6.34.1-spup

This is the ATI Catalyst 10-10 fglrx proprietary driver for Spup It seems to be installing properly and working well, at least on my HD 3850 card. Please delete the first attempt if you downloaded it.

It is for ATI HD cards, from 2400-5800.

It installs like a normal pet, which I guess it is, and then asks you to reboot. It also installs the ATI Catalyst Control Center under Menu -> System Status and config -> ATI Catalyst Control Center.

After install and reboot you can check Menu -> System -> Hardinfo -> Display -> scroll down, and you can enter glxgears or fgl_glxgears in a terminal.

Yes they are excellent, and very nice, professional looking apps...
They also work in 4.2, with some very small tweaks.

Ok guys

Here is a simple desktop configurator with a few templates for customising your desktop. It doesn't pretend to have full control over the desktop but it is quick and easy. Just check your desired radio buttons and apply, that's it, X will restart. If you don't like what you see try a different configuration.

Thanks Stripe, that app you posted had a useful "minimal" puppypin that I did use, just slightly altered.

Cheers and enjoy!

a word of warning, this will undo any icon changes you have made

EDIT: I have now added Stripe's custom option too, get desksetup-0.2 Smile

EDIT: new version 0.3, fixes the bug where the custom profile is saved with the current wallpaper, when custom is selected now the wallpaper does not revert to that setting.

EDIT: Latest version next page

Does this disable the ROX pinboard when you select no icons and no drive icons?
(I'm downloading it and will hack it up and play with it to check anyway, but I just wondered - others might like to know as well..)
