mkv file viewer in puppy linux

#1 Post by mailsub2000 »

I am using below:

Linux puppypc 2.6.30.5 #1 SMP Tue Sep 1 15:48:26 GMT-8 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
vlc media player 0.9.2 grishenko

the file is in mkv format and mostly blue ray or converted from that.

unable to play through vlc.
Any suggestions to make it play?

As you're wanting to play an HD video (that it's more or less from a Blu-Ray source implies that it is), you're going to need a fair amount of computer horsepower (at the very least, a lot of RAM) to accomplish it. The system has to be able to accomodate the large filesize, high resolution, decoding h.264 AVC video with those constraints, etc.

How is VLC failing to play the video? Does it load but not play, or play with stuttering/etc.?

That's strange that VLC doesn't allow you to view the file ......... I can view *.mkv using Mplayer rc3 in the same build as you with no problem.

mplayer svn-31792 (post 1.0rc3) pet package (8.6MB)
Description :
- mplayer (24-July-2010) binary with gui support and dvd-skin.
- includes opencore-AMR & ffmpeg-VP8
- supports ladspa.

You could also ensure you have the correct drivers for you video card as well.

Read this thread as well:

Xorg Full is available in that thread as a download.

thanks for replies.
1. vlc starts to play file and stops withing few min. no error.
2. tried the mplayer and get
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
3. smplayer also fails with code 127
MPlayer dev-SVN-rUNKNOWN-4.2.2 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team

Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2
/usr/bin/mplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/mplayer: undefined symbol: av_strlcpy

seems something odd with my setup. I couldnt found full X11 for i810.
no idea what exactly is going wrong. library files or ram or some misconfigurations

These symbols are in libavformat and libavutil libraries (FFMPEG).
Try to upgrade the ffmpeg.

i810 ......... Intel 845G graphics card?

I have had problems with this card previously, had to use XVESA for video configuration and not Xorg.

However I think this driver issue has been resolved in new builds of PL ie 5.11.

I'm might be wrong though.
