Download Helper is one way : http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Tested it today by downloading a flv file from youtube on dialup and it played perfectly in VLC with no conversion necessary. Sure there are other ways to do it but since I have heard people have gone so far as to switch Distros just for this minor problem, the youtube downloader no longer working , I though it was worth posting,

FireDog works!

If anyone finds a fix for the included downloader please let me know, it does make Puppy seem easier to people unfamiliar with real operating systems. It might be a good idea to preload Download Helper or a similar app in Firedog,
Firedog youtube downloads work (for me at least) using the addon which is installed by default..

You must first load and start playing the video before you start downloading it.
Sorry if I bother but isn't already the flv file already in your /tmp folder as Flashxxxx? Why not just renaming? Plus it works with every browser...

Whether or not the file is present in /tmp depends on the player software used by the website.
It can work, but not on all sites.

Plus the addons sometimes give you access to higher quality videos than the one actually used on the page.
Even mp4s, and I dont like flv video.

But that is a good tip for everyone, thanks.
Incidentally, what do you rename them to? Do you change the extension?

I use this script,
When available on page, if needed, I choose best resolution in player, don't know where addons can find better ones.

Firedog is great! :D
Using it with Fat-free 3.01 + yeahwm
- changed GUI to use minimal screen space
- more compact menu, toolbar, address bar, search bar and bookmarks.. in 1 row
looks much like dillo - which is neat!

keep up the good work 8)
3.01 Fat Free / Fire Hydrant featherweight/ TXZ_pup / 431JP2012

Glad you like it! It's my everyday browser, and every time I have to use another, I'm like "Oh man!".... Where's the shortcuts? Why so little screen space? Where this/that feature? :D Hope it's stable for you as it is for me!

I have Firedog on a couple machines and have been very satisfied... great work to Scott as always...

I wonder if there was one thing we could get...

We already have a Flash 9 that spoofs 10... now that we're at Flash 11, last gig for Linux, could we get a Flash 10 pet that spoofs 11?

The reason I ask is that a few sites want 11, but actually, the 10 pet works really well in Firedog, but in some of the older machines, (amd cpu's I think) the latest 11 doesn't work. If we had a Flash 10 that spoofed 11, the performance would be fine and some significant sites like Facebook would stop asking for the Flash upgrade.

Asking because I have a machine with Akita/Firedog that would be perfect if there was a Flash 10 that spoofed 11.

Not trying to make special requests... I think this would be super useful to a lot of Puppy users, and would be great for Firedog.

I don't know where this rumour about Puppy 4 series has come from it is certainly not true as I have run Firedog and seamonkey - latest in 4.12 and can certainly use a youtube downloader such as seamonkey youtube downloader or the one that comes woth firedog all I had to was update my plugins. So again this rumour - which is all it is - is NOT true. In fact with updates - both browsers running in 3.01 - so yeah. Firedog is very good by the way.
