In case anyone is under the impression that it is now impossible to download youtube videos and other such things in 431 as I have heard it is a piece of cake with FireDog and VLC.

Download Helper is one way : http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Tested it today by downloading a flv file from youtube on dialup and it played perfectly in VLC with no conversion necessary. Sure there are other ways to do it but since I have heard people have gone so far as to switch Distros just for this minor problem, the youtube downloader no longer working , I though it was worth posting,

FireDog works!

If anyone finds a fix for the included downloader please let me know, it does make Puppy seem easier to people unfamiliar with real operating systems. It might be a good idea to preload Download Helper or a similar app in Firedog,

Firedog youtube downloads work (for me at least) using the addon which is installed by default..

You must first load and start playing the video before you start downloading it.

Sorry if I bother but isn't already the flv file already in your /tmp folder as Flashxxxx? Why not just renaming? Plus it works with every browser... Laughing

Whether or not the file is present in /tmp depends on the player software used by the website.
It can work, but not on all sites.

Plus the addons sometimes give you access to higher quality videos than the one actually used on the page.
Even mp4s, and I dont like flv video.

But that is a good tip for everyone, thanks.
Incidentally, what do you rename them to? Do you change the extension?

I use this script,
When available on page, if needed, I choose best resolution in player, don't know where addons can find better ones.

Firedog is great! Very Happy
Using it with Fat-free 3.01 + yeahwm

Quote:
- changed GUI to use minimal screen space
- more compact menu, toolbar, address bar, search bar and bookmarks.. in 1 row

looks much like dillo - which is neat!

keep up the good work Cool

Glad you like it! It's my everyday browser, and every time I have to use another, I'm like "Oh man!".... Where's the shortcuts? Why so little screen space? Where this/that feature? Very Happy Hope it's stable for you as it is for me!
