Subject description: The quickest way thru a maze is to use a bulldozer

Hi Guys:

Posted here hoping to attract the attention of "the regulars."

At the top of each post is the date at which it was made, and this remains the same regardless of how many times that post is edited.

There are times when I just can't read every thread I find interesting. I try to keep abreast of Puppy derivatives, whether they appear in that thread, or Puppy Projects. But sometimes a couple weeks or more may elapse between the beginning of the discussion about a new puplet and my "discovering" the thread or an interest in it. By that time, problems with the "new pup" may have been discovered and solutions to those problems incorporated or simply changes in direction may have resulted in the publication of a new iso.
It has become customary to edit the first post to discuss the latest build and to point to the download location of the most current iso. And this is a good thing.

But sometimes the discussion has gone on for several months, and for example, the decision to publish "beta 5-- the most recent" was made on page 47 and the discussion has continued and is now on page 53. And with the exception of page 1, the first 46 pages are only of historical interest, or involve technical discussions which, if important to future efforts, may be uncovered by a "well-minded" search. Those problems may be of little interest to someone new to that puplet, who intending to download the "current build" want to know its current problems, if any.

Accordingly, I would respectfully request that when the first posting of a thread is edited, so as to provide a link to the current build, either the date of the edit be noted, or a link to the point in the thread relevant to the new built be included, or both.

Thanks,

MikesLr

An excellent suggestion. May the regulars read it and take it to heart. Smile

I agree too. Those threads become too long, specially when one comes back after an absence and seeing thatt here are 20 pages to read.

Another way would be to start the thread, f.e. puppyxxx and when a significant change is made, like a new beta, create a sub-thread on that thread.
Don't know if phpBB can do this.

A moderator could create new categories and sub-categories and move the threads to them, but that takes a lot of time and (in my opinion) too much of that kind of thing makes the forum harder, not easier, to use.

OK, didn't know it takes that much effort.
