Subject description: optional save to 'top layer' save file (solved)...

I, and others, would like to be able to choose whether or not we save our changes to our save files, at the end of a session.

So.. I've seen it requested, and I want to know myself:

how do I use the optional save file fix (here) or something similar, if I have a frugal install on ext3..

(note that code was originally from Pizzagood, not me)

The problem is that using a frugal install on ext3 (or other non-removable hard drives?) the pup mode is different to usb installs, and the save file is mounted on the top layer, and saved to, 'as you go'...

Is it possible to get around this behaviour and stop the constant updating of the save file?

and also to allow people whose save files are mounted on the top layer, to choose whether or not a save file is saved to at shutdown?
