Is there a key binding to leave a a java application?

#1 Post by Rattlehead »

I'm trying to go as mouseless as possible, and a persistent obstacle I find is java applications; for example, say, YouTube (because it is Java, isn't it?). The video app seems to be very "possessive" and I haven't found a way to leave it using only the keyboard: I have to click with the mouse somewhere outside the application to regain control, then go back to the keyboard, etc. I have googled this but no lock. Does anybody know a "magic combination" for this?

Youtube and many similar sites use Flash, not Java.
This seems to indicate that it's a mozilla bug

There's actually a patch from last month on one of those bug reports...

Thanks Disciple, it is nice to see a bugzilla report which describes precisely my case. I have also found the patch, but when I press the link it does not automatically install, like plugins do. It shows a piece of code in an unknown language, instead. How could I install such code? Neither Bugzilla help nor google have been helpful.

Patches are modifications to the source code of a program. You would need to recompile seamonkey/firefox... which is fairly drastic.

...so I have to wait for a new version to come, and maybe send them some kind of recommendation asking for that bug to be fixed, right?

Thanks for enlightening me :)

No, you probably shouldn't send them a recommendation.

Rattlehead, I think you should raise the issue in a Mozilla forum.
You can include then also a request for a solution.

Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Béèm - there is already a bug report, with a patch attached. There should be no need to raise it in the forum.

Ooops  Indeed your first reply, but then Rattlehead can signup in Bugzilla and give his comments on the issue and eventually ask when a solution could be available (maybe already in the bug report, I didn't check)

Only if he has something new to add.
They're already complaining about the number of useless comments on that bug... and it has no shortage of duplicates either.

Thanks for encouraging people to report bugs though... sometimes it seems like most don't bother.

Yeah, it should be a natural reaction, but you are right in your comment. People are lazy in that aspect.
On the other side, sometimes 'bugs' are reported and no reaction/answer given, so there starts to be discouragement.

Coding illiterate as I am, I'll simply wait for cookers to take the next action. 8) After all, considering that the code exists already, the chances are it will be added in the upcoming version, I guess...
Anyway, it's a minor flaw. Seamonkey is a realy cool browser. I've come to like it better than Firefox...
