Lucid Puppy 5.11 -- Frequent Web Browser Crashing...

#1 Post by kugelfang »

Hello all,

This one's finally got me really frustrated.

I'm using Lucid Puppy 5.11. However, for the past several versions of Puppy I've had this problem. Web browsers seem to frequently crash. It seems to be tied to an event, either a mouse move or the loading of a new page. The problem occurs in the default browser, Firefox and Opera. It does not seem to be tied to any particular web page, though it does seem to be more common on pages with a lot of features. Yahoo web mail, for example, is particularly bad.

Is this a known problem? And if so, can someone point me to a resolution? I get so many results with a search of this forum that it's hard to filter out what may be helpful and what is not.

TIA

You should always report on your puppy install type and things like size of ram and whether you have swap or not.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Processor: 2x Intel(R) Pentium(4) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Memory: 2075MB (111MB used)

Puppy not installed, I boot from the CD. I presume that means no swap?

Yes that means no swap, but with 2GB this isn't needed.
So doesn't seem to be related to a lack of RAM.

Now I remember vaguely that in some 5.x.x this has happened.

Maybe the latest pre-5.2 (lucid 236) doesn't present the problem.

Otherwise what I do in such cases is use the puppysearch link in my sig as this gives better, more to the point, hits.
