Sorry for not responding earlier, I apparently don't get emails from this forum anymore. I'll try to figure out why I don't. (On a side note, do other people get emails still?)

It appears that Windows is using hybrid boot, which basically turns "shutdown" into "hibernate", which explains the messages you're getting. This is done to make Windows startup faster, at the cost of leaving the Windows partition in an unstable state (which is why the save file isn't read). The odd thing is that LICK is supposed to disable fastboot.

There's three ways to disable fastboot, only one of which is currently implemented in LICK. The first is an option in the control panel, which LICK should disable through a command on the command line. Try following those instructions, and let me know if the checkbox was checked, and if the steps help at all. To test this, you need to go to "shut down" in Windows, then boot up a puppy.

The second way is through the registry, which currently isn't implemented in LICK (since this issue has never come up before I didn't do implement it, but if this fixes things, I'll prioritise implementing this). Anyway, the instructions can be found here. Follow the instructions to disable fast boot. Let me know if this fixes things.

Finally, LICK does the other step the second link above, disabling hibernation. You can try this and see if it helps.

Let me know if any of the above steps fixes the issue, and if so, which step.

Finally, if none of the steps above work, go into Windows, select "reboot", then boot into puppy. I don't think hybrid boot changes reboot at all, so it may be a good workaround.

LICK is a free program to install Linux from Windows without burning a CD or using a USB. It is as simple as installing and running LICK, selecting a Linux ISO image, and clicking install. A few seconds later, you can reboot into Linux. Currently only Puppy Linux-based distributions are supported.

LICK runs on any Windows version, from Windows 95 to Windows 10. Check below for any special notes on your Windows version type.

Ready for use LICK.exe are provided, but personally set my own Puppy to be launched. First try was the famous 5.7.1 rebuild by csipesz,
It was to try this too, by curiosity. My CD player and 4 USB ports are still available. In native Puppy Linux spirit, i don't install any OS on hard drive, and keep Windows Seven alive, for sale of my computer in the future. Linux frighten most of buyers, our Puppy Linux, which power is often in bad hands,

LICK 1.3.1 has been released. This fixes Windows 95 support, and removes some random `static` keywords in lickgrub.cfg, making the grub4dos timeout work again as expected.

As always, you can download it from here.

Hello,
LICK is at this point by FAR the easiest way to add puppy support to win10 systems.
Thanks for your great work.

A feature that I would like is the option to just install the LICK bootloader without specifying an ISO. Just add the boot entry to BCD menu and add the lickgrub.cfg in C: . \
This will allow to install frugal systems more quickly and not to have to delete the "live" folder and then copy the frugal folder.

I know this seems a bit lazy from me but this little extra time I spend deleting the "live" folder from C: seems to add more complexity to the the non trained eye (=my friends where I "advertise" puppy as easy to install Smile )
