As i have tried using both: (with wary-092-k2.6.34.6)

but the system still locked up when i tried to run OpenOffice.

Thanks for the link, but i already have a working OpenOffice in my main Puppy (432),
i just wanted to play with the actual packages Terryphi is using, to see if they work on my setup (with wary-092-k2.6.34.6)

Sometimes it makes me crazy. Spent so much time messin' with Open Office I just noticed I have no video playback with mplayer. Sound is fine, but playback screen is just blank yellow Sad

The fix is to run xorg wizard and select low res driver. Run the video and its ok, then run video wizard again and select hi res option and it is fixed!

EDIT: Only half right. Simple fact is on my system video in Wary does not work with transparency enabled.

A yellow window is not an error, it is simply that mplayer is waiting for something to play.

I get the yellow window if I click on a streaming media link, until the connection is made and the stream is flowing.

This is with a local file Barry. I traced the problem to having transparency enabled. None of the '9 series Warys like it Smile

Hi Catdude, here are the locations I got the files from:

Testing further I found that once OO has been run, and incorporated into the save file, Java can be removed. My current theory is that some files in /root/.openoffice/ are amended during the first run and OO does not check on subsequent runs. Clearly if the files can be identified they can be incorporated into an amended sfs file or a patch sfs file.

These files jump out as candidates for further investigation
because of the file names:
/root/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml
and possibly
/root/.openoffice.org/3/user/registry/cache/org.openoffice.Office.Java.dat

However, there may be others.

Hi Richard
I was going to report that symbol errors had reappeared if I did the rename as requested - however Barry has beaten me to it on his Blog and has confirmed that the wary092 modules are faulty due to Alsa version problems - but the good news is that he has things working on his laptop in wary093 k2.6.31 so I guess we wait for that version??

I researched the symbol errors and found there is a "twist" to the story. One of the HDA source files must be patched to export the two symbols. There is a web page that explains this, copied below. I think we patched the 1.0.20 version of ALSA, so that needs to be done to any later version of ALSA, too.

and I assume that is why the wary060 k2.6.32.16 with alsa.1.0.20 is the only version that has worked previously......????

Can these patches be automated for any future alsa changes??

Consider the claim from Mobeus and bigpup regarding the refresh rate(vertical frequency of the screen).

The point is the lowest frequency is not always at the first column of the list the xrandr reports.
Think the xorgwizard, the xrandshell and .xinitrc affects.
Maybe i can make a patch. But of couse if you can do, it is better...

I didn't patch the Alsa kernel source in 2.6.31.14, so I guess those symbols must already be exported.

I was trying to remember whether we ever did have to patch Alsa 1.0.20 drivers, but I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere.

Anyway, the module is working for me, it looks like the 11c11040 default loads in my case.

I've done some more testing and established that one file, javasettings_linux_x86.xml, and the sub-directories to locate it, are all that is required to solve the problem with OpenOffice failing to run on Wary using kernels 2.6.34 and 2.6.35.7 . That is at least on my hardware!
This file does not seem to be amended even when Java is removed or updated.

This is the path:

The file was generated using the OpenOffice sfs and Java pet I described earlier in this thread. If anyone wants a copy of the file let me know.
