I forget exactly (I'm currently running 4.3.1, but had tried Puppeee, and plan to look at it again sometime soon) -- but I'm pretty sure that you can force Puppeee to look at your keyboard and mouse:

Code: Select all

Menu > Setup > Mouse/keyboard Wizard
I also suspect that your USB mouse must be plugged in before you boot (so the machine identifies that the mouse is attached).

I have an Asus netbook, and seem to vaguely recall using the Wizard to get the external mouse working -- the touchpad still/also works for me. I think mine gave some trouble, but I attributed that to using a KVM...

I would expect the mouse to see power as soon as the machine starts (not dependent on the operating system).

Did you try it in a different USB port?

Or do you have a different USB mouse you could try (as it could also be a damaged cable).

I am assuming that the USB ports cannot be turned off in the BIOS (although it is possible that there is an enable/disable function there).

I have not tested usb mouse with puppee but can confirm that when I use Quirky and LupQ then usb mouse works on two of my laptops.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
