In Luci 236
Switched to SNS and connection has survived a couple of reboots.
For the first time my internet Ethernet was not auto connected.
However clicking on the tray icon - very clear icon
it was easy to set up - I choose the second option (that is Barrys option - I think the SNS) - which has been persistent in Luci 235 but have not rebooted yet in 236

I had to set up sound - easy
Seemed a lot more help and questions during the set up
Helpful and easy process
My firewall activated by clicking on icon and following instructions

Swapped to JWM
changed background, installed xaraLX and video driver and googleEarth
and . . . and . . . transmission is in there (no need to download)
good plan

Pidgin not auto configured to IRC - ah well, maybe next time
Could not find KDE in quickpet or ppm - aw!

So far so good :)

Just a quick slightly left of centre question: given we can choose our browser freely with Lucid/Luci, do you have any kind of statistics as to overall preferences?

Ethernet connection

Somethig mismatch in implementing Pwireless2?

You clicked the icon in the tray? You are right if you like to use SNS.

I right-clicked on the 'connect' icon on the desktop and selected 'Autoconnect' from the menu. It is more easy.
In this case, Network Wizard ran and connected successfully.

The icon on the task tray sees no 'Autoconnect' menu for the first boot...

EDIT: Puzzling 8)
Boot up luci-236 frugal install with ram mode.
Barks twice. Personalize Settings comming up. No Welcome1st info page.
Setup time and keyboard. OK.
No connection.

Ran the Personalize Settings again from the menu.
Barks twice. Personalize Settings comes up. OK without change.
This time an offer the SNS comes up.
Setup SNS. Success. Set the SNS as the default.
Made savefile at reboot.

Reboot. No connection.
right-clicked on the 'connect' icon on the desktop and selected 'Autoconnect' from the menu. No reaction.
Setup SNS again. Success. Set the SNS as the default.

Reboot. No connection.

I don't know.
In 235 I had an autoconnect but this was not persistent at next boot.
So am quite happy to set it up if persistent.
You clicked the icon in the tray? You are right if you like to use SNS.
Yes inded it was crossed out in red - so I knew immediately I had no connection. Clicked on it (may have been right click) to run wizard - totally intuitive . . . 8)

clicked on the 'connect' icon on the desktop and selected 'Autoconnect' from the menu. It is more easy.
It may be easier.
But I like to try a different method (as do noobs)
just to see if it works as expected.
In this case, Pwireless2 or Network Wizard(?) ran and connected successfully.
The Network wizard worked. I am on a wired Ethernet connection (faster and more secure)

Hope that makes sense :)

Yes. It was the Network wizard.
I deleted the pupsave, and tried another test:

Boot up luci-236 frugal install with ram mode.
Personalize Settings comes up. Setup time and keyboard. OK.
No connection.

This time, right-clicked on the 'connect' icon on the desktop and selected 'Autoconnect' from the menu.
Network Wizard ran and connected successfully. Made pupsave.

Reboot. No connection.
Right-click 'connect' icon and 'Autoconnect'.
Connected successfully.

Reboot. No connection.

Downloading 236 8)

Just some quick notes I took about 235 over the weekend:

(computer Asrock Atom ION 330)

*next boot will be faster"-message appeared during several reboots. Never happened before. ( a bit like the famous sign in the pub that says "free beer tomorrow".. :) ) After several reboots, I rebooted with pfix=ram to check something out. The next boot after that one, the "next boot will..."-message was back again. It's gone now, but something is wrong obviously.

* Playing mp4 video: sound okay, but no video. Solved by changing Video Output (preferences) from "xv" to x11.

* First Run Dialogue: Personalize Settings: Everything worked perfectly (language, time-zone, resolution, keyboard, numlock). However, when I opened it from the menu (10 minutes later) it was back in English and under "Country Settings" said "No locale chosen" This was before creating a savefile.

* The old Puppy clock problem still persists: after setting the time in Puppy, the system clock is thrown back one hour (two hours during summer time) for all other distros on the computer.

* Am I the only one with really horrible default web font? ( in Seamonkey) Makes a bad first impression...
Changed it to ubuntu font. Better, but not like what Ubuntu or Mint look like..

* Likewise, I think it's time for a nicer default mouse cursor.

I am thrilled by the development going on here. Thanks to the Team!

Testing 236

Similar network connection problems to Lobster,ie no Ethernet auto-connect as before in all other Pupps but easy remedied.
Firewall status icon now switchable.

Installed Icewm and Trinity both now present in WM switcher but still the same issue when switching form Trinity >jwm.Have to enter 'xwin jwm' in prompt.
Whilst on the subject of Trinity.I cant seem to get it to detect any removable media?

Nice to have Transmission in there.

Looking great

Did you use kdebase or kde-core?

There is nothing wrong with a Windows box, unless it runs Windows.

acrocosm wrote:Please, how do I *completely* remove/disable the pinboard on this release?

I use nitrogen for wallpapers and dmenu as my app laucher. I don't neeed and don't want the pinboard.

I used to be able to do it by removing the related entries in xinitrc but now it'll leave me with a default pinboard. I checked openbox session for anything related to rox but i didn;t see anything there.

Also my ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh doesn't seem to get loaded on startup, i have to manualy run it
Right, I managed to get rid of it by replacing the line "rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin" with "openbox-session"

A nice side-effect is that ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh loads fine now
A bad side-effect is that I don't get blinky and the vol icon on the tray >_<

Off topic, I have been wondering for quite a while how did openbox became so popular over fluxbox. They are similar but fluxbox comes with a fine panel too (plus other stuff). Why is it not the first choise and instead people preffer openbox with the added "overhaul" of adding/configuring a panel?? I really see no reason to preffer it over fluxbox. It's not like its faster or smaller or much better in terms of resources usage. Or am I missing something?

Barks twice. Personalize Settings comming up. No Welcome1st info page.

That is on purpose. It is more specific to Wary now and imho we have enough stuff popping up already.

----------------------------------------------------------------

In making that change I may have broken the auto connect.

What is supposed to happen is the auto connect for ethernet and then SNS to pop up after firstrun if there is no internet connection.

#736 Post by scruffy »

Fresh Frugal install of luci-236 on Sony Vaio Pentium 2 333Mhz 128 MB Ram 500MB swap file.

Set up was quick and easy.
Sound works out of the box
Installed Sea Monkey without pupsave file - ok.

Tested:

Abiword
Gnumeric
Viewnior
Mplayer with MP3

All work fine and fast for this machine. :D

I can't test internet connection at the moment.

Thanks scruffy

Not really off topic. I think the main reason is that openbox was chosen for LXDE, which caused it to get more attention, development, and testing. I am looking forward to using fluxbox in Lucid 5.2. Fluxbuntu was my all time favorite Ubuntu variant, but it was not official and it was one-time only. Openbox is default because Barry had already configured it in Woof (not so with fluxbox).

cthisbear,

There is an ath5K driver in Puppy Package Manager, that might be worth trying. You would install that and then modprobe -r your current driver and modprobe the new ath5k driver.

This is not my specialty so maybe someone else would have better instructions.

Just installed 236
Thanks for adding the @euro in the selection list.
So there is this request remaining to add a button in the 1st run for the 24 hour clock.

My working environment applications still are run well.

Applied your Rox-FilerConfigForLuci-235, but so far seldom use ROX-Filer [use Xfe], so no idea what these do or how to use them.
They are configuration files. In the folder structure you would find them on your file system.

Extract the archive to your File System Root also know as "/". Then restart Rox. The simplest way to do that is to restart X.
